Job summary

Deerfoot Recruitment Solutions Limited seeks a Storage & Backup Engineer to own and operate the backup estate for a major financial group, across EMEA and internationally. The role combines hands-on administration with architectural input, roadmap shaping and regulatory-aligned controls.

The ideal candidate will have deep Dell EMC NetWorker and Rubrik experience, plus hands-on work with EMC Unity, Isilon and ECS, Red Hat Linux and Kemp load balancers.

Responsibilities

• Take technical ownership of all online and offline storage and backup technologies across EMEA and internationally
• Design, implement and administer backup systems; patch and maintain per vendor guidance
• Monitor backup success rates; identify failures and drive improvements to eliminate them
• Ensure backups are captured and retained per policy; restore requests met reliably
• Meet SLAs/KPIs; maintain high availability; satisfy IT risk, control, security and privileged access requirements
• Manage capacity; flag capacity risks early; maintain upgrade roadmap
• Contribute storage components to change programs; participate in audits; document and maintain DR readiness
• Act as SME consultancy; mentor colleagues; identify automation opportunities
• Deputise for Head of Storage on people management and workload prioritisation

Storage & Backup Engineer

Day Rate Contract (Inside IR35) London (Hybrid) - 4 Days Onsite / 1 Day WFH per week

Do you know Dell EMC NetWorker inside out, with Rubrik under your belt too? That combination is rarer than it should be - and it's exactly what's needed here.

You'll join the storage function of one of the world's largest financial groups as the subject matter expert for its entire backup and storage estate across EMEA and internationally. This is genuine technical ownership: the platforms you'll look after are what stand between the organisation and data loss or corruption, which makes the role central to its regulatory obligations as well as its day-to-day operations.

It's a broad remit. Alongside hands-on administration and support, you'll shape the roadmap and architecture standards, drive backup success rates upwards, manage capacity ahead of growth, and deputise for the Head of Storage when needed. There are no direct reports today, but the role is expected to grow a team management element over time.

What You'll Be Doing

• Taking technical ownership of all online and offline storage and backup technologies across EMEA and internationally, including related connectivity
• Overseeing the design, implementation and administration of all data backup systems, their software and hardware, keeping them patched and maintained in line with vendor recommendations
• Monitoring backup success rates, identifying failure patterns and driving improvements with the aim of eliminating failures altogether
• Ensuring backups are captured and retained in line with corporate policy, and that restore requests are met reliably and on time
• Making sure the estate meets its SLAs and KPIs, stays highly available, and satisfies IT risk, control, security and privileged access requirements
• Managing capacity, flagging capacity risk early enough to avoid loss of service, and maintaining an up-to-date roadmap for upgrade, improvement and legacy system rationalisation
• Contributing storage components into wider change programmes, participating in audits and investigations, and owning accurate technical documentation and BCP/DR readiness for new services
• Acting as the SME consultancy point for other technology teams and end users, identifying automation opportunities, and mentoring colleagues
• Deputising for the Head of Storage on people management and team workload prioritisation as required

What You'll Bring

• Strong experience of enterprise backup solutions, specifically Dell EMC NetWorker and Rubrik
• Hands-on expertise across EMC Unity, EMC Isilon, EMC Elastic Cloud Storage (ECS) and Cisco SAN switches
• Strong Red Hat Linux skills, plus experience of Kemp load balancers
• A track record of running storage and backup platforms in large, mission-critical environments where availability, retention and restore reliability genuinely matter
• Comfort operating inside an IT risk and control framework - documentation, audit participation, policy compliance and privileged access control
• Desirable: breadth across databases, networking, VMware, Microsoft Windows and Active Directory; experience prioritising and managing team workloads; financial services or another highly regulated environment
