Job description

Stock Control Coordinator - South West & Wales

Are you someone who enjoys being out on-site rather than sitting behind a desk? Do you have experience in stock control, inventory management, asset auditing, or warehouse operations? If so, we have an exciting opportunity to join a leading utilities organisation as a Field-Based Stock Control Coordinator.

This is a hands‑on role where you'll travel across depots and operational sites throughout the East and West Midlands, helping to identify, track, and maximise the use of valuable stock and assets. You'll play a key role in driving operational efficiency, reducing unnecessary purchasing, and supporting a major stock optimisation programme.

Summary
  • Start date: ASAP
  • Duration: 6 months with potential for longer
  • Location: Field based across the South West & Wales Area including Bristol, Plymouth, Cardiff and Swansea
  • Pay Rate: £21.36 per hour
  • Hours: 37 hours per week Monday to Friday
  • Working Pattern: Typically 8am to 4pm, with flexibility to manage your own schedule around site visits and travel
Purpose of the Role

As a Stock Control Coordinator, you'll spend the majority of your time visiting operational depots and sites, carrying out stock audits and helping teams better understand, organise, and utilise existing materials and assets.

You’ll be responsible for identifying surplus, unused, or underutilised stock and ensuring accurate records are maintained. Working closely with depot and operational teams, you'll help drive better visibility of stock across the business and support initiatives that deliver significant cost savings.

This role would suit someone who enjoys working independently, managing their own diary, building relationships with operational stakeholders, and being out in the field.

Responsibilities
Stock Audits & Asset Reviews
  • Visit various depots and operational sites across the South West and Wales
  • Conduct physical stock checks of transformers, switchgear, cable, and more.
  • Verify stock location, condition, and usability.
  • Reconcile physical stock against tracking records and spreadsheets.
Stock Surplus Management
  • Identify excess, obsolete, or stranded materials.
  • Determine the best course of action for assets: reuse, return, or dispose.
  • Accurately record asset details in central trackers.
Operational Support
  • Match available surplus stock with planned work programmes.
  • Support local teams in assigning surplus stock to future replacement schemes.
  • Help maintain a centralised surplus stock register.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Collaborate closely with Depot Managers, Team Managers, Heads of Operations, and Stores teams.
  • Escalate issues when stock ownership or project allocation is unclear.
Reporting & Governance
  • Produce weekly progress reports.
  • Track the value of identified stock, redeployed stock, and returned stock.
  • Update central trackers and governance packs diligently.
Experience Required
Essential
  • Experience in stock checks, inventory management, or asset audits.
  • Comfortable in depot, warehouse, or operational environments.
  • Strong Excel and data-entry skills.
  • Ability to travel regularly across operational sites.
  • Full UK Driving Licence - Company car provided for business use
Desirable
  • Experience in utilities, engineering, logistics, warehousing, or supply chain.
  • Knowledge of electrical network assets.
  • Familiarity with SAP, inventory systems, or asset management databases.
  • A continuous improvement mindset.
Personal Attributes

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Organised and methodical.
  • Capable of working independently across multiple locations.
  • Comfortable challenging data inconsistencies.
  • Detail-oriented with a knack for building strong relationships with depot teams.
  • Eager to spend most of their time on‑site rather than behind a desk.
