Job summary

BD, a leading global medical technology company, is seeking a Steriliser Technician at its Plymouth site. You will maintain and optimise sterilisation equipment, troubleshoot electrical, mechanical and pneumatic issues, and support continuous improvement across a collaborative team.

Night shifts (23:00–11:00, Mon–Fri) with a base salary of £35,000–£38,000 plus a 37% night shift premium, and involvement with Engineering, Production, Quality and Validation teams to enhance safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Solid history of maintaining and resolving issues with complex equipment.
• Experience in maintenance, engineering technician, or manufacturing support roles.
• Understanding of process control systems, relay logic, ladder logic, and/or PLCs.

Responsibilities

• Support and upkeep sterilisation equipment and related machinery.
• Identify and fix electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic issues.
• Carry out fault-finding to minimise downtime.
• Support equipment reliability, process efficiency and product quality.
• Help implement new equipment and continuous development projects.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Quality and Validation teams.
• Find opportunities to improve efficiency, safety and operational performance.
• Act as a key technical problem solver during night-shift operations.
• Uphold safety, adherence and housekeeping standards.

About the role

As a Steriliser Technician, you will fulfil a meaningful role in maintaining and optimising our sterilisation equipment and processes. You will work within a collaborative and ambitious team to ensure flawless operations and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that keep our manufacturing environment operating efficiently.

Main responsibilities

• Supporting and upkeeping sterilisation equipment and related machinery.
• Identifying and fixing electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic issues.

• Supporting equipment reliability, process efficiency, and product quality.
• Helping to implement new equipment and continuous development projects.

• Upholding rigorous standards of safety, adherence, and housekeeping.

Primary Work Location GBR Plymouth - Belliver Industrial Estate Additional Locations Work Shift GB-Con-PLY Green 23-11-Shift B type (United Kingdom) Working hours will be 23.00 - 11.00 Monday to Friday £35,000 - £38,000 base salary + 37% Night Shift Premium.

About you

• We require a technician with a solid history of maintaining and resolving issues with complex equipment.
• Applicants must possess an NVQ Level 3 / ONC in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent technical credential.
• Experience in maintenance, engineering technician, or manufacturing support roles is vital, alongside strong troubleshooting skills for electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
• Understanding of process control systems, relay logic, ladder logic, and/or PLCs is essential.
• Furthermore, the capacity to operate independently and make sound technical decisions while working night shifts is necessary.
