Main duties of the job

Based at Broadgreen Hospital, the sterile services technician will work as part of a dedicated team providing critical decontamination services to Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The role involves working alternating shifts from 6 am to 2 pm and 2 pm to 10 pm, Monday to Friday, totaling 37.5 hours per week, with enhancements.

The role requires adherence to strict policies and procedures, complying with regulatory and international standards ISO13485.

Experience in a highly regulated, quality-controlled, or military environment is advantageous. Strict adherence to procedures and deadlines is essential. Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust enforces a strict no-smoking policy.

Applicants should have a good standard of English literacy and numeracy (Grade C or above).

Job description

The post involves operating Instrument Washer Disinfectors, Sterilisers, manual handling, and using IT barcode, scanning, and labelling systems for medical instruments. All training will be provided.

Ensure safe, efficient practices for decontamination, assembly, and sterilisation of instruments and equipment, complying with quality standards.

Ensure all activities comply with health and safety guidelines.

Share knowledge and demonstrate flexibility in driving department vehicles.

Person Specification

Qualifications (Essential):

  • NVQ 3 (or equivalent) in Decontamination or Sterile Services, or the willingness to undertake and pass within 2 years.

Experience (Essential):

  • Experience in a medical device decontamination environment or GMP cleanroom.
  • Excellent technical and communication skills, with leadership ability.
  • Experience with internal quality audits.

Knowledge (Essential):

  • Ability to review technical data and understand safety requirements.
  • Understanding of cleanroom standards, monitoring, and testing.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Department of Health requirements regarding prion minimization.

Other:

  • Flexibility, effective time management, self-motivation, positive attitude, and adaptability to new technology.
