Job Opportunity: Sterile Services Assistant

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the newly established Sterile Services Department at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

As a Sterile Services Assistant, you will handle medical devices essential to surgical teams and patients' care plans. Training will be provided on the complete decontamination and sterilisation cycle, including relevant legislation such as HTM01-01 and ISO13485, along with other quality standards. Prior experience in Sterile Services is not required.

The role involves working 37.5 hours per week, with options for a rolling day shift pattern or fixed night shifts, to be discussed at interview. There is also a requirement to participate in 'on call' duties once fully trained.

  1. Accurately exchange information with colleagues and customers to prioritize work and resolve problems.
  2. Understand routine work procedures requiring in-house training.
  3. Maintain and update knowledge of instruments across various surgical specialties.
  4. Understand and follow decontamination procedures, including safe operation of automated machinery.
  5. Participate in on-call team duties after training.
  6. Attend departmental lectures and hospital courses regularly to meet health and safety standards.
  7. Adhere to recommended best practices at all times.
  8. Perform daily maintenance of theatre instruments, including dismantling and re-assembling surgical instruments as per work instructions.
  9. Maintain records of instrumentation through data entry.
