Job description

Job Opportunity: Sterile Services Assistant at Stoke Mandeville Hospital

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the newly established Sterile Services Department at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

As a Sterile Services Assistant, you will handle medical devices essential to surgical teams and patient care. Training will be provided on the complete decontamination and sterilisation cycle, including relevant legislation such as HTM01-01, ISO13485, and other quality standards.

Note: Previous experience in Sterile Services is not required.

Hours: 37.5 per week, with a rolling day shift pattern or fixed night shifts to be discussed at interview. There is also a requirement to participate in ‘on call’ duties once fully trained.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Accurately exchange information with colleagues and customers to prioritize work and resolve problems.
  2. Understand routine work procedures requiring in-house training.
  3. Maintain and update knowledge of instruments across various surgical specialties.
  4. Understand decontamination procedures and operate automated machinery safely. Participate in on-call duties when fully trained.
  5. Attend departmental lectures and hospital courses regularly to meet health and safety standards.
  6. Adhere to best practices at all times.
  7. Perform daily maintenance of theatre instruments, including dismantling and re-assembling surgical instruments following work instructions.
  8. Maintain records of instrumentation through data entry.
