Job summary

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Exeter seeks an Instrument Sterilization Technician to decontaminate, assemble and sterilize surgical instruments, and perform endoscope decontamination in line with policies.

You will support the OR and outpatient areas, operate washer and sterilizers, and maintain a clean, safe work environment while following infection control standards. This role requires basic computer skills, good attention to detail, and physical ability to lift and move equipment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• No formal experience required.
• Working knowledge of computers; organized with attention to detail.
• Physical ability to frequently lift 28 lbs and occasionally 50 lbs; constant standing.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, assemble and sterilize surgical instruments per policies and manufacturer instructions.
• Decontaminate and high-level disinfect Endoscopes per hospital procedures.
• Provide operational support to the OR by responding to patient care needs.
• Perform washer, steam sterilizer, low temp sterilizer, and OER testing per policy.
• Retrieve, restock and deliver instruments to departments and doctor offices.
• Maintain a clean work environment in compliance with regulations and infection control standards.

Responsible for decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation. As well as the decontamination and high level disinfection of Endoscopes. Provides pick-up and delivery of doctor office instruments.

Job Description:

Major Responsibilities

• a. Processes (decontaminate, assemble, sterilize) surgical instrument and patient care equipment according to departmental policies and procedures and manufacturer instructions for use. Able to perform duties in both the outpatient and inpatient surgical areas.
• b. Processes (decontaminate, HLD) Endoscopes according to hospital policies and procedures and manufacturer Instructions.
• c. Provides operational support to the OR by responding rapidly and effectively to patient care needs.
• d. Performs all washer, steam sterilizer, low temp sterilizer, and OER testing per departmental policies and procedures and manufacturer instructions for use.
• e. Follows departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement programs, safety/environment of care programs and infection control standards. Reports any equipment failures, risk or safety issues to department director or designee in a timely fashion.
• f. Performs rounds to retrieve equipment/instruments from hospital departments. Provides pick up/delivery of instruments for doctor offices. May assist with preparing case carts for the Outpatient Operating Rooms. Assists in locating instruments/equipment as needed. Retrieves/restocks/returns code and specialty carts/trays. Monitors non controlled pharmaceutical agents
• g. Maintains a clean work environment in accordance with regulatory requirements and hospital policy.
• h. Attends mandatory staff meetings and in services; Responsible to stay up to date with departmental communications and required annual and periodic competencies.
• i. May participate in the help of new staff orientation.
• j. Completes other daily tasks as requested and assigned.

Pay Range:

$25.00 - $37.15

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
