Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking an Endoscopy team teammate to assist gastroenterology, pulmonology, and general surgery procedures, supporting RNs and patients during interventional endoscopy.

Responsibilities include assisting with procedures (EGD, colonoscopy, bronchoscopy, ERCP), preparing rooms, organizing supplies, and ensuring a safe environment. A high school diploma and CPR within 90 days are required; healthcare experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists RN with data collection for objective patient needs.
• Assists physicians with procedures including EGD, colonoscopy, bronchoscopy, and other endoscopic procedures.
• Prepares procedure rooms and ensures supplies and non-controlled pharmaceuticals are ready.
• Maintains safety by complying with hospital policy and PPE usage.
• Keeps documentation up to date with staff, scopes, and specimen handling.
• Participates in call teams and supports urgent procedures.
• Acts as a preceptor for new Endoscopy techs and RNs.
• Trains MDs on new equipment as needed.

$2,000 sign-on bonus available for eligible hires. Bonus amounts for positions under 40 hours per week will be prorated. Per diem roles are not eligible.

Job Description:

Assists Gastroenterologists, Pulmonologists and General Surgeons as well as RNs and patients with interventional Endoscopic procedures.

Major Responsibilities:

a. Assists the RN in collection of data for an objective assessment to identify patient needs. May be cross trained to work in multiple areas including the admit/discharge area in Endo and OSC, in the Interventional Procedure area as a procedure assistant, and in the transport department.

b. Provides technical skills as a member of the team, communicating with supervisors, other staff members, other department staff members, physicians and anesthesiologists. Assists physician with various procedures including but not limited to: EGD, flexible sigmoidoscopies, Colonoscopies, Bronchoscopies, PEG/JPEG/NG placement and exchange, EBUS, diagnostic and therapeutic EUS procedures, ERCP. Fine needle aspiration, BRAVO etc. Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions.

c. Responsible for procedure room preparation and turnover. Gathers and organizes required supplies and non-controlled pharmaceuticals for procedures. Restocks supplies as needed; may order supplies. Ensures that travel carts used for emergency procedures are restocked and fully functional. d. Maintains a safe environment for patients and staff by complying with regulatory agency requirements and hospital policy, including use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment per hospital policy. Prepares room for isolation and protection of all staff from airborne diseases such as TB, including the use of air flow systems and special masks.

d. Maintains knowledge and awareness of professional and practice issues related to the field of endoscopy/gastroenterology and pulmonology. Attends inservices and self-identifies learning needs regarding equipment and procedures. SGNA certification strongly encouraged upon meeting eligibility requirements.

e. Enters data to include names of all staff present and scopes utilized into documentation system. Responsible for collection, labeling and handling all specimens collected during procedures.

f. Member of the Endoscopy Call Team. Remains calm in emergent situations; adapts readily to dynamic patient situations by having appropriate equipment selected and prepared for urgent utilization by the physician.

g. Participates in organizational and departmental performance improvement activities. May be an active member of the Unit Based Council, quality committees, RBC team etc.

h. Serves as a preceptor to train all new staff including new Endo techs and RNs. May assist in training MDs with new equipment.

Additional Qualifications
Previous healthcare experience preferred, including work as a healthcare tech, medical assistant, LNA, sterile processing tech, EMT, or paramedic. If experience does not include current state licensure, candidate will be required to apply for NH Medical Technician Registry.

Pay Range:

$20.00 - $28.70

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geographyof work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
