Job summary

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust seeks a Decontamination Assistant to join the Sterile Services Department and Endoscope Decontamination Unit. You will clean, disinfect and sterilise reusable medical devices, including endoscopes, following ISO-based procedures to ensure patient safety.

The role requires attention to detail, good English communication, teamwork, and flexibility with shifts, with training provided to support quality and safety.

Qualifications

• Excellent English – written and verbal.
• Previous experience in a healthcare environment.
• Good organisational skills.
• Basic IT skills.
• Manual dexterity.
• Attention to detail.
• Knowledge of quality management systems ISO 13485 / ISO 9001.

Responsibilities

• Receiving, sorting and preparing reusable medical devices for cleaning and disinfection.
• Inspecting, re-assembling, function-testing, packaging, sealing and labelling devices after washing.
• Maintaining packaging, wrapping and labelling in line with legislation and service requirements.
• Understanding sterilisation methods and product liability in relation to re-use of medical devices.
• Carrying out quality checks to confirm decontamination and safety for patient use.
• Reporting or documenting any failures to the Decontamination Services Manager.
