Plan:it is seeking a Staff Engineer (Architecture & Data at Scale) to shape core data platforms for a fast-growing SaaS business. You will own design and technology across teams, set architectural direction, and untangle trade-offs for performance, reliability and scale.

You should have proven experience with high-volume data ingestion, streaming, and search workloads, Kubernetes, Kafka, and a Python-first mindset; TypeScript/Node.js experience is a plus.

Staff Engineer (Architecture & Data at Scale)

Office: Fully remote (UK)

Salary: Up to £120k

A well-established B2B software company that helps large financial institutions and enterprises manage risk. The platform handles huge volumes of data in near-real time, and it's growing quickly.

The engineering team is now at the point where the platform has to scale. More customers, more data feeds, more users. That's where this hire comes in.

Staff engineers here don't sit inside a single team. They work across several, owning the design and technology for a core area of the product, solving the hard problems and making sure architectural decisions stick. Expect system design, architecture and influence over where the product goes next, rather than day-to-day ticket work.

The company has built its reputation on data. Think high event volumes through Kafka, search on Elastic, Mongo underneath, all running on Kubernetes. They don't need a Kafka wizard if you've worked with something similar, and a Python-first engineer who's handled serious data could very much work, but TypeScript (Node.js) is what they use mainly. However, but the data experience matters most.

Ideal profile: a staff/ principal/ lead engineer who's worked on high-volume data systems (ingestion, streaming, search), is comfortable designing distributed systems, and can explain trade-offs to everyone from engineers to customers. Experience scaling a SaaS platform is a big plus.
