Job summary

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 5 Paediatric Nurse to join its Special School Nursing Team on a term-time basis. The post covers 24.5 hours per week across five days, serving five schools in Huddersfield and Calderdale, with a main base at one site.

You will care for children with complex needs, train school staff, and support junior staff within the school setting. The role requires NMC registration in a relevant field, plus post-registration qualifications

Qualifications

• NMC registered nurse in relevant field or within 6 months of completing a validated degree.
• Practice Assessor/Supervisor qualification or willingness to complete.
• Post-registration qualification relevant to specialty.
• Teaching and leadership qualifications are desirable.
• Evidence of continuing professional development.

Responsibilities

Staff Nurse - Special School

Are you an experienced Paediatric nurse with a passion to deliver high quality nursing care in a special school environment.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Paediatric Nurse to join the Special School Nursing Team at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust.

Term time opportunity for 24.5 hours per week across 5 working days of the week to maintain the current service, supporting children and young people attending Special schools across Huddersfield and Calderdale.

The team provides specialist nursing to 5 schools across Huddersfield and Halifax and you will work within the team. It will be expected that you are able to support in all of the schools on an as required basis to rotate skills and staff. However this role will have a main base in one of the 5 sites.

Main duties of the job

• Provide clinical nursing care within the special school setting.
• Support training and support for Education staff within scope of your own practice and expertise.
• Develop, plan and implement care for children and young people with complex needs and disability who attend special school
• Take a lead role in the management and support of junior staff on the school site.
• Escalate any concerns to SSNT Team Leader.

Job responsibilities

• Plan, Implement and evaluate care for children and young people in school setting.
• Identifying and providing child specific health care procedures, training for school staff, including competency based assessments where required.
• Use professional knowledge to provide evidence based practice
• Contribute to single and multiagency safeguarding of disabled children, young people and young adults.
• Demonstrate highly skilled and innovative practice and support new ways of working.
• Demonstrate robust assessment skills and recognise the timely need for appropriate action and onward referral and involvement of other agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

• NMC Registered Nurse in relevant field of practice (or within 6 months of completing a validated BSc or MSc course, resulting in NMC registration)

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

• Knowledge and skill to plan, deliver, and evaluate high quality, evidence-based nursing care to a group of patients within the speciality of the post
• Experience of working with patients, and those that matter to them, from a range of diverse cultures and backgrounds
• Experience of working as part of a team, with the ability to prioritise own workload.
• Knowledge and skill in infection prevention and control principles and procedures
• Knowledge and skill in safeguarding principles and procedures
• IT literacy and ability to use NHS systems
• Competence in speciality or role specific extended skills required of the post or willingness to undertake necessary training.
