Job summary

Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our busy Endoscopy Team. Experience in Endoscopy is desirable but not essential.

The Endoscopy Unit is a modern, 7-room, JAG-accredited unit performing over 17,000 procedures per year. The successful candidate will support the consultants and our team of nurse endoscopists to provide safe care before, during and after procedures.

Qualifications

• Registered nurse with current registration.
• Endoscopy experience is desirable but not essential.
• Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of the nursing care for a named caseload.
• Assist in creating a therapeutic environment which meets the needs of patients, relatives and carers.
• Adhere to Wirral Hospital objectives, policies, protocols and guidelines.
• Liaise with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Act as shift coordinator in the absence of the Ward/Departmental Manager.
• Supervise and lead a team of junior staff.
• Participate in audits and maintain ongoing professional development.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to join our busy Endoscopy Team. Experience of working in Endoscopy is desirable but not essential.

The Unit is a modern, well equipped, 7 room, JAG accredited Endoscopy Unit. A capital build to improve on existing facilities was completed in September 2014. Our Endoscopy Unit performs in excess of 17,000 procedures per annum across a full range of gastrointestinal and respiratory endoscopy.

The successful candidate will support the Consultant Gastroenterologists, Consultant Surgeons and our team of nurse endoscopists to provide safe care and treatment for patients during their time on the Unit.

This will involve assisting the endoscopist during endoscopic procedures and caring for patients before, during and after their procedures.

The Unit operates across 6 days a week including Bank Holidays (Excluding Christmas Day) Shifts are based between the hours of 8am-7pm. Saturdays/Bank holidays are rostered with a day off in lieu.

• Take responsibility for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of the nursing care for a named caseload of patients, including their property and valuables
• Assist in creating a therapeutic environment which meets the needs of patients, relatives and carers
• Adhere to Wirral Hospital objectives, policies, protocols and guidelines
• Liaise with other members of the multidisciplinary team
• Contribute to promoting a critical, analytical approach to the delivery of care and implementation of change
• Participate in audits
• Continuously update own skills and knowledge and maintain awareness of clinical issues
• In the absence of the Ward/Departmental Manager or their deputy, act as shift coordinator
• Act as a preceptor, Practice Assessor/Supervisor and/or NVQ assessor to junior staff and students
• Supervise and lead a team of junior staff.
