Job description

Job summary

The drug development unit is a globally competitive, early clinical trials unit that conducts first-in-human clinical trials for patients with advanced cancer when all standard treatment options have been exhausted. The unit comprises a 9-bed inpatient ward, a day care area, and an outpatient clinic. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across all areas during their induction before joining the Day Unit team.

The Staff Nurse role is diverse, combining traditional nursing duties with research responsibilities. Care involves trial-related assessments, oral and IV treatments, symptom control, and supportive care. It offers a unique opportunity to broaden your skills while providing high-quality care and emotional support to patients with advanced cancer.

Ideally, the candidate will have experience in chemotherapy and/or clinical trials. The ability to prioritize a busy workload and work well within a multidisciplinary team is essential.

The successful candidate must be able to work 8am - 6pm, four days a week, Monday to Friday. The role is based in Oak Day Unit.

Main duties of the job
  1. Plan, document, deliver, and evaluate evidence-based nursing care for patients responsibly and efficiently, in conjunction with the shift co-ordinator.
  2. Develop an understanding of the needs of cancer patients and the treatment modalities used within the unit.
  3. Manage shift responsibilities with guidance from the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.
