Job summary

Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Band 5 Registered Nurse to join the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) team at the Great Western Hospital. You will support pre-operative assessment, admissions, discharges and procedures under local, general, sedation and inhalation sedation.

Excellent communication and a commitment to high-quality care are essential. Previous OMFS experience or outpatient setting work is desirable.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills are essential.
• RGN with 1st or 2nd level registration is required.
• Continuing professional development (CPD) is expected.
• Experience in outpatient/theatre/recovery environments and IV medication administration, cannulation, bloods is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist nursing support across nurse-led pre-operative assessment, admissions and discharges.
• Scrub Nurse in Oral Surgery Theatre.
• Support recovery and nurse-led discharge.
• Ensure compliance with nursing policies and procedures.
• Maintain up-to-date nursing standards and registrations.

Staff Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to join the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) team.

You will provide specialist nursing support across nurse-led pre-operative assessment, admissions and discharges, assist with procedures undertaken under local anaesthetic, general anaesthetic, sedation and inhalation sedation.

We are looking for a motivated, patient-focused Registered Nurse with excellent communication skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality care. Previous OMFS experience is desirable or working in an outpatient environment.

You will help to provide/co-ordinate the specialists nursing care of patients and contribute to the continuing development of nursing within the Oral Surgery/Orthodontic Department. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will be involved in the efficient running of Oral Surgery Outpatients clinics, Orthodontics and Day Surgery lists within the Department

This is an excellent opportunity to develop specialist skills within a supportive multidisciplinary team while contributing to safe, effective, and compassionate patient care.

Main duties of the job

• To maintain accurate, comprehensive and up to date documentation and record data according to Departmental policy.
• To ensure knowledge of and compliance with the policies and plans for Fire, Major Incident, Control of Infection and the Health and Safety at Work Act.
• To report to the Sister/Charge Nurse, Senior Nurse or Directorate Manager, any undue occurrence that may be either witnessed or reported.
• To be an effective practitioner with the ability to develop clinical expertise in the care of patients in the outpatient setting and to ensure that due attention is paid to the needs of relatives and friends of patients in the Department.

Job responsibilities

• Provide specialist nursing support across nurse-led pre-operative assessment, admissions and discharges, procedures undertaken under local anaesthetic, general anaesthetic, sedation and inhalation sedation, and post-operative wound care clinics
• Scrub Nurse in Oral Surgery Theatre.
• To work in Recovery taking responsibility for care and welfare of patients leading to Nurse-led Discharge.
• To be familiar with and ensure the compliance to the operational nursing policies and procedures governing the execution of patient care.
• To ensure that the agreed nursing standards for the Department are monitored and maintained.
• To attain an up to date knowledge of current nursing practices, maintained by regular study.
• To maintain current registration with the NMC and comply with the standards set by them.

Education
