Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

There are 2 fulltime, permanent posts of 37 hours per week, with a rotational shift pattern.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team within Queen Elizabeth National Spinal Injuries Unit Queen Elizabeth University Hospital within our High Dependency Unit and Rehabilitation Ward. As an essential part of our national spinal injuries team, you’ll deliver high quality, clinically effective patient care at all times. We can offer you a varied caseload encompassing acute spinal injuries and the care of the spinal injuries patient in the rehabilitation phase that will help you develop your capabilities and experience and you’ll enjoy the real respect, rapport and effective working of a close-knit, highly skilled, multidisciplinary team.

We are seeking to recruit enthusiastic and highly motivated band 5 registered nurses to join the existing National Spinal Injuries team. All staff will be supported by our dedicated Educator for Spinal Injuries and will undergo in-house training and competencies which will enable you to become competent to perform extended roles pertinent to spinal management such as supra-pubic catheterisation, male catheterisation, tracheostomy care, bowel evacuation, and respiratory care for ventilated patients. The National Spinal Injuries Unit consists of Edenhall Ward which is a 12 bedded Spinal High Dependency and Philipshill ward which is a 32 bedded Spinal injuries rehabilitation ward with an integrated High Acuity respiratory care unit. Opportunity to rotate throughout Spinal Injuries and other acute areas and specialties to expand and develop skills. You must be able to demonstrate a commitment to patient-centred care, continuing professional development, an understanding of our service, and the specific needs of our patients with a commitment to learn and develop these skills. The Queen Elizabeth National Spinal Injuries is one of 3 areas that have been part of the pilot for Digital Clinical Notes. This is an exciting opportunity for you to be part of an innovative time within NHSGGC.
