Job summary

Depop Limited is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Scientist to join the Core ML team in the UK. You will design, build and scale foundational ML models and infrastructure to support product matching, image embeddings, and lightweight classifiers across Depop's marketplace.

You will set the technical vision, lead high-impact initiatives, and mentor colleagues while collaborating with product managers, ML engineers and stakeholders to drive innovative, scalable solutions across multiple domains.

Qualifications

• Proven track record of delivering and scaling models with measurable business impact.
• Deep understanding of ML concepts and production-ready experience with Transformers, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
• Strong Python skills, production-grade code, and knowledge of data engineering and MLOps.
• Ability to lead end-to-end ML initiatives, mentor others, and work in ambiguous problems.
• Strong collaboration and stakeholder alignment skills.
• Genuine curiosity about AI and its day-to-day applications.

Responsibilities

• Own design, development, and deployment of robust ML solutions for fashion resale space.
• Work with models for representation learning, computer vision, and classification, scaling them as shared systems.
• Partner with senior stakeholders to define problems and design scalable ML solutions for content understanding, moderation, and personalisation.
• Lead end-to-end lifecycle of large-scale experiments from hypothesis to evaluation.
• Stay current with research and contribute to internal knowledge sharing and ML best practices.
• Participate in agile ceremonies and planning to set technical direction and improve team.
• Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences and influence decisions.
