Job Description

Staff Health & Wellbeing Manager

Department: Human Resources

Salary: Starting from £46,735, rising to £55,755

Closing date: Sunday 15 June 2025

About the role

We’re seeking a credible and confident individual to drive positive staff health and wellbeing at the University of Bath. We are currently one of only 15 Universities to have been awarded the Universities Mental Health Charter, which recognises our whole university approach to mental health and wellbeing. You will build on these significant steps by leading on the staff-facing elements of our "Be Well at Bath" initiative and acting as our Subject Matter Expert on staff wellbeing.

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Engaging and networking with staff, leaders, managers, and experts across the university.
  2. Representing staff wellbeing in strategic meetings such as the Be Well Steering Group, Departmental Wellbeing Action Planning, and Suicide Prevention Working Group to proactively develop actions and initiatives that enhance staff wellbeing.
  3. Developing and supporting the implementation of evidence-based wellbeing interventions for staff and leading projects that promote a healthy culture.
  4. Leading the communication plan for staff wellbeing; developing and updating intranet pages, writing blogs and articles, and organizing wellbeing events.
  5. Leading a network of volunteer Staff Wellbeing Champions, supporting and cultivating this community of practice.
  6. Providing training and interventions, or sourcing these from external providers, to embed health and wellbeing approaches across the organisation.

You’ll be based in the University's Safety, Health and Employee Wellbeing Service, which provides professional guidance and support on health and wellbeing matters.

This is not a counselling or mental health practitioner role, though you will occasionally work with individuals to signpost support.

This role is hybrid with an expectation of 3 days per week on campus, subject to stakeholder requirements.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working in a large, complex environment.
  • A professional qualification (degree level or equivalent) in Human Resources, Occupational/Organisational Psychology, or Health and Wellbeing. Alternatively, broad business experience with practical involvement in wellbeing initiatives and policy development.
  • Experience in coaching, with relevant qualifications and memberships (e.g., CIPD/BPS).
  • Experience using the HSE management standards to develop action plans for staff wellbeing.
  • Excellent communication skills for report writing and presentations at strategic levels.
  • Confidence, credibility, and collaboration skills to challenge practices, manage change, and support individuals in challenging situations.
  • Creativity and initiative to solve complex problems and manage multiple projects.

You should be an effective role model with strategies for managing your own wellbeing, remaining resilient under pressure, and adapting to changing priorities.

What we can offer you

We celebrate diversity and are committed to equality. We offer a range of benefits including:

  • Free counselling services through Health Assured
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme
  • Staff discounts at various facilities and on tuition fees
  • Generous pension schemes and annual leave
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Various discounts and benefits

We are proud to be an inclusive, autism-friendly university and support disabled staff. We also offer relocation allowances, visa reimbursement, and interest-free loans for immigration expenses.
