About The Role

We are seeking a credible and confident individual to drive positive staff health and wellbeing at the University of Bath. The university is one of only 15 to have been awarded the Universities Mental Health Charter, recognizing a whole university approach to mental health and wellbeing. You will build on these achievements by leading staff-facing elements of the "Be Well at Bath" initiative and acting as our Subject Matter Expert on staff wellbeing.

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Engaging and networking with staff, leaders, managers, and experts across the university.
  2. Representing staff wellbeing in strategic meetings such as the Be Well Steering Group, Departmental Wellbeing Action Planning, and Suicide Prevention Working Group to develop actions and initiatives that enhance staff wellbeing.
  3. Developing and supporting the implementation of evidence-based wellbeing interventions for staff and leading projects to foster a healthy culture.
  4. Managing the communication plan for staff wellbeing, including updating intranet pages, writing blogs and articles, and organizing a wellbeing calendar of events.
  5. Leading a network of volunteer Staff Wellbeing Champions and supporting this community of practice.
  6. Providing training and interventions or sourcing external providers to embed health and wellbeing approaches across the organization.

This role is based in the University's Safety, Health and Employee Wellbeing Service, which offers professional guidance on health and wellbeing matters. It is not a counselling or mental health practitioner role, though you may work with individuals to signpost support.

This is a hybrid role with an expectation of 3 days per week on campus, subject to change based on stakeholder needs.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have:

  1. Experience working in a large and complex environment.
  2. A professional qualification (degree level or equivalent) in Human Resources, Occupational/Organisational Psychology, or Health and Wellbeing, or broad business experience with practical involvement in wellbeing initiatives and policy development.
  3. Experience in coaching, with relevant qualifications and memberships such as CIPD or BPS.
  4. Experience using the HSE management standards to support staff wellbeing initiatives.
  5. Excellent communication skills for report writing and presenting to diverse audiences, including at a strategic level.
  6. Confidence, credibility, and collaboration skills to challenge norms, manage change, and support individuals in challenging situations.
  7. Creativity and initiative to solve complex problems, with the ability to manage multiple projects.

You should be an effective role model with strategies for managing your own wellbeing, remaining calm under pressure, and adapting to changing priorities.

What We Can Offer You

We celebrate diversity and are committed to an inclusive environment. Benefits include:

  • Free counselling services through Health Assured
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme
  • Staff discounts at various facilities and on tuition fees
  • Generous pension schemes and annual leave
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Free museum entry in Bath
  • Relocation and visa support

We continually expand our benefits to support our staff. Find out more on our website.
