We are looking for a UK based Staff Core Services Software Engineer to join our talented, dynamic, and rapidly growing global team. We have an in-office requirement of 2 days per week for local London employees.

Description

Embark on a rewarding journey as a Staff Core Services Software Engineer, at OpenAsset, leading the charge of our highly engaging Core Platform team. This hands-on technical role puts you in a key role to develop and design large and micro services, and lead decisions in how OpenAsset will evolve and adopt cutting edge technologies. You’ll work on developing exceptional microservices, core systems and distributed systems, using Python/Java, deployed in automation with Terraform/OpenTofu to AWS cloud technologies. As a pivotal force in our team, you will not only contribute directly to code and test, but also champion best practices, guide the team through technical challenges, and advocate for excellence in all aspects of software development.

Responsibilities

As a Staff Core Services Software Engineer, your day-to-day activities will revolve around the software engineering lifecycle, technical leadership, effective communication, and a hands-on approach to solving complex challenges, contributing to the overall success of the entire platform, its multiple products, and the company.

Project Ownership

  • Lead the design, planning, estimation, testing, and coordination for ongoing and upcoming team projects spanning multiple releases.
  • Take ownership of the entire development lifecycle, ensuring the delivery and testing of complex systems on time and within budget.
  • Own decisions and develop architectural changes across microservices, operations and infrastructure.
  • Implement core systems and microservices that serve multiple or single product lines.
  • Develop reusable tools, libraries and workflows, to be deployed across engineering teams as a standard.
  • Collaborate with Product and other Engineering teams to address cross-cutting technical issues, contributing to the overall success of company-wide initiatives.
  • Work on issues requiring in-depth evaluation, providing creative and effective solutions to complex problems.
  • Strategic decision making to guide short and long term delivery of valuable features and services for our customers.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical advice and weigh in on decisions that have an impact on other teams or the company at large.
  • Research and propose new technologies to enhance the capabilities of our services and applications.

Communication and Mentorship

  • Communicate effectively within and outside the Engineering organization, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Considerate use of documentation techniques, to effectively document and communicate highly complex ideas to a varied audience.
  • Contribute to the growth of team members through code reviews, documentation, technical guidance, and mentorship.

Strategic Problem Solving

  • Actively identify and propose strategies to resolve technical problems affecting multiple teams, demonstrating a strategic mindset with clear identification of responsibilities.
  • Determine methods and procedures used by the team, focusing on continuous improvement and efficiency.

Security, Reliability, and Compliance

  • Actively work to refine the team’s approach to security, reliability, privacy, and compliance.
  • Complete tasks and projects in these areas with minimal guidance, ensuring the highest standards are met.

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing

  • Take responsibility for team and system-wide documentation, ensuring that knowledge is well-documented and shared within the team and beyond.

Skills and Experience

  • 7+ years of backend systems development, using modern technologies (Python preferred).
  • Infrastructure engineering experience, with cloud infrastructure.
  • 3+ years of technical leadership experience and/or managing teams.
  • Experience with software design patterns, and capable of applying modularity and single responsibility principles across a variety of services.
  • Worked on building tools to aid with automating, inspection, migrations, testing, and building other efficiencies across workflows.
  • Expert and high proficiency in programming languages such as Python and/or Java.
  • Expert in systems architecture and experience working with multiple systems at scale.
  • Expert understanding of microservices architecture, continuous integration, and deployment for reusability and testability.
  • Experience leading and mentoring engineers without formal direct reporting relationships.
  • Proactive collaboration with different engineering teams and advocacy for teams’ needs.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum methodology.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other related technical field.
