Job summary

Do Health in London is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to join the founding team. This role is hybrid, with around three days per week in person, and you will own major backend features end-to-end within a small, fast-moving team.

You will shape architecture, scale blood testing infrastructure across the UK and beyond, and build production AI systems that personalise longitudinal health data. Direct collaboration with product, design and clinical teams is core to delivering real user impact.

Qualifications

• 7-9 years backend experience with strong fundamentals.
• Experience at a startup or scale-up where you owned things.
• End-to-end architectural thinking with trade-offs.
• Track record shipping reliable systems.
• Comfort making judgments in ambiguous situations.
• Responsible use of AI tools in your workflow.
• Nice-to-have: TypeScript/Node.js; Go/Python/Kotlin.
• Nice-to-have: scaling systems to high user volumes.
• Nice-to-have: ML/AI systems in production.
• Nice-to-have: healthcare or regulated industries.

Responsibilities

• Own major backend features end-to-end - design, build, ship, monitor, iterate.
• Shape architecture. Real technical decisions, kept or changed based on results.
• Scale our blood testing infrastructure across the UK and internationally.
• Build production AI systems - personalisation engines that act on longitudinal health data.
• Improve reliability, observability, and the foundations that everything else depends on.
• Work directly with product, design, and clinical teams. No tickets thrown over walls.
