Job summary

The City of Fort Worth Athletics Maintenance Operations seeks a Sr. Maintenance Worker to perform construction and maintenance tasks within the Park & Recreation Department.

You will support over 60 fields and 20,000 participants yearly, performing turf management, fence repairs, and equipment operation. Under the Assistant Field Operations Supervisor, you will lead maintenance workers, plan methods with the crew, and ensure safety and quality in daily tasks.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Three years of general maintenance, park maintenance, and/or construction experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License; pass pre-employment drug screen, physical and background check.
  • Candidates with CDL and pesticide license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Mow and maintain fields, repair fences, apply pesticides/fertilizers.
  • Operate hand and power tools and small equipment in maintenance tasks.
  • Operate larger equipment (tractors, loaders) and assist in construction ops.
  • Report needs to supervisor, perform preventive maintenance, complete time sheets.
  • Lead other Maintenance workers and coordinate with Crew Leaders on methods.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Pay Range: $18.32 - $22.90/hr. | $38,109 - $47,636 annual compensation

A Sr. Maintenance Worker job is available with the City of Fort Worth to join the Athletics Maintenance Operations team. The Athletics Maintenance section is located at the James Avenue Service Center. The Park & Recreation Department provides a variety of recreational sport programs and facilities year-round for Fort Worth residents of all ages which help relieve stress, enhance physical conditioning and enhance quality of life. With over 60 high-level competition sports fields maintained serving over 20,000 participants yearly, the Athletics division has been perennially recognized as one of the best in the country for its programs and services.The Parks & Recreation Department maintains more than 300 parks and public spaces citywide as well as providing recreational activities and educational programming that makes Fort Worth a great place to live, work and play.

The successful candidate for the Sr. Maintenance Worker position will be under the direct supervision of the Assistant Field Operations Supervisor in the Athletics Maintenance section. The ideal candidate will perform a variety of construction and maintenance activities in the completion of assigned divisional operations, which include those related to the Park & Recreation Department and other manual labor responsibilities, performs athletics maintenance and grounds keeping duties.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Three (3) years of general maintenance, park maintenance, and /or construction experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must pass Pre-Employment Drug Screen, Physical and Criminal Background check
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Possess Class A CDL
  • Texas Pesticide Applicator’s License
  • Past experience in operating tractors, zero turn mowers and front-end loaders
  • Proper techniques and uses of a variety of hand and power tools and machinery
  • Variety of construction and maintenance activities in the completion of assigned divisional operations
The Sr. Maintenance Worker job responsibilities include:
  • Mow and maintain, measure lining and dragging turf fields: perform minor fence repair; apply pesticides and fertilizers
  • Operate a variety of hand and small power tools and equipment such as push mowers, weed eaters, stick edgers, backpack blowers, chain saws, pole saws, shovels, rake, pick axes, jack hammers and various other equipment in support of a variety of maintenance and construction operations
  • Operate medium and light equipment such as driving brush trucks, large turf mowers, reel mowers, tractors, frontend loaders and various other equipment in support of a variety of maintenance and construction operations
  • Report maintenance and repair needs to appropriate supervisory staff, performs preventive maintenance on equipment as assigned, inspects equipment before use and completes daily operations reports and time sheets as assigned
  • Expect to be able to lead several Maintenance workers to perform tasks and projects successfully and report to Crew Leaders and Assistant Supervisor results
  • Meet with the Crew leader and other supervisory personnel to determine job methods
  • Perform other related duties as required

Working Conditions and Physical Demand:

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting, depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.

Heavy Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
