System of Quality Management - Risk Assessment and Monitoring

ISQM1 Supervising Associate (L2.5) – Permanent Position

Your key responsibilities
The Supervising Associate will play a dual role in the firm’s ISQM1 risk assessment process (RAP) and ISQM1 Monitoring and Evaluation, two critical parts of the ISQM1 work. The successful candidate will play a key role in executing the RAP and will also be involved in the monitoring and remediation process. The RAP includes evaluating the established quality objectives, identifying, and assessing quality risks, and designing and implementing control responses while ensuring compliance with both ISQM1 and EY audit methodology. Monitoring includes coordinating across the firm to identify and analyse key processes and results of a number of critical monitoring and evaluation inputs to assist with monitoring and remediation. This will include analysing inputs such as inspection results for Audit engagements and related SQM impact of key inspection findings identified by the regulators (FRC, PCAOB, ICAEW). The candidate will also engage with stakeholders across all areas of the business, including Audit leadership, to broaden business relationships where possible.

We welcome applications from those who wish to consider a range of flexible working options.

EY has adopted hybrid working practices with staff working in the appropriate place for their day. Some travel to other EY offices may be required.

Skills and attributes for success
As a Senior Associate you will work across the entire firm interacting with stakeholders at all levels and be supported by leaders who have a strong belief in professional skills development. From day one, you will build broader experiences in a fast paced and dynamic organization.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • A professional accounting, auditing, or similar qualification
  • Successful Audit background
  • We will expect that you will complete the required number of learning hours in order to maintain your membership of the professional body/institute. Day to day team project management skills including the ability to work independently, manage performance and keep team leaders updated on status.
  • Experience undertaking similar risk assessments, documenting higher-risk areas, and delivering conclusions (examples being external audit, internal audit, ISQM, SoX, etc.)
  • Ability to assess information provided from various sources to assess quality risk(s) and generate insights including assessment of impact to the system of quality management, including potential impact to ISQM controls testing.
  • Ability to understand interrelationships between quality objectives, risks and controls across different components and articulate interdependencies and the impact of these
  • Proven analytical skills with the ability to communicate observations both verbally and through interesting and insightful presentations.
  • Be part of the team overseeing the firm’s ongoing monitoring of responses and, where required, supporting the designing and implementing of responses that are effective in addressing the quality risks identified.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong ability to present results/output using core Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). A commitment to constantly developing your understanding of current market trends and processes and sharing your knowledge to develop junior colleagues.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Some experience of controls testing with the ability to discuss identified gaps, improvements and conclude on a way forward is preferred but not essential (e.g., experience in external audit, internal audit or SOX testing).
  • Experience in PowerBI or other visualisation tools
  • Prior experience and understanding of ISQM1 requirements or working in an ISQM1 role is desirable but not essential as training will be given.
