Job summary

Davies Turner in Dartford, Kent, is seeking a SQL Server Database Developer to design, develop and implement robust database solutions for our business-critical applications. You will lead the development of our strategic database architecture in an on-premise SQL Server environment, using T-SQL and SSMS with no reliance on ETL tooling.

The role offers hybrid working with in-office days Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and home working on Tuesday and Friday, collaborating closely with software

Qualifications

  • Strong commercial experience developing Microsoft SQL Server databases in production environments.
  • Excellent T-SQL skills, including writing, troubleshooting and optimizing complex queries.
  • Experience with relational database design, data modelling and schema development.
  • Hands-on experience in on-premise SQL Server environments using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and optimise Microsoft SQL Server databases, stored procedures, views, functions and other database objects.
  • Design and maintain relational database structures that support business applications and integrations.
  • Investigate and resolve database, application and data-related issues in production environments.
  • Optimise database performance, reliability and scalability using appropriate tuning techniques.
  • Work closely with developers and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver practical technical solutions.
  • Support database changes through development, testing and production release processes.
  • Contribute to system upgrades, integrations and ongoing technology improvement initiatives.
  • Produce technical documentation and share knowledge, standards and best practices.

Salary: Competitive

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Hours: Monday - Friday, 09.00 - 17.30hrs (37.5hrs per week)

Hybrid working: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday in the office. Tuesday and Friday working from home.

SQL Server Database Developer - The Role:

You will play a pivotal role in designing, developing and implementing SQL Server database solutions that underpin our business-critical applications. Working closely with developers and stakeholders across the organisation, you will help shape how data is captured, managed and utilised.

This role offers the unique opportunity to lead the development of a strategic system from the ground up, influencing its architecture, functionality and long-term direction. You will work directly with on-premise SQL Server Always On environments using T-SQL and SQL Server Management Studio, with no reliance on SSIS, ETL or data pipeline tooling.

SQL Server Database Developer - Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, maintain and optimise Microsoft SQL Server databases, stored procedures, views, functions and other database objects
  • Design and maintain relational database structures that support business applications and integrations

SQL Server Database Developer - You:

  • Strong practical experience in relational database design, data modelling and schema development
  • Hands-on experience developing within on-premise Microsoft SQL Server environments using SQL Server Management Studio
  • Proven experience analysing and resolving database performance, data quality and application-related issues
  • Experience supporting business-critical applications and working alongside application development teams
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach
