Auro Recruitment Group is assisting a data-driven business in London with a SQL Server Database Administrator role focused on stabilising and modernising a large on-premises estate.
You will own enterprise SQL Server environments, implement AlwaysOn, tuning, security, DR, and collaborate with product teams to align the database roadmap with the wider platform strategy.
3-4 days per week in the London office is expected, with on-call support for maintenance windows.
We're looking for a SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to join an established data business that sits at the heart of global trade, providing information that thousands of organisations rely on every day to make decisions about the movement of goods. It’s a firm with real heritage and a huge volume of data behind it, and it’s now entering an exciting new chapter: a full modernisation of its platform.
As the Database Administrator, you’ll be the person responsible for keeping the existing estate stable, secure and performing while the business transforms around it.
On the technical side, you’ll own a large, enterprise-scale Microsoft SQL Server environment running in on-premises datacentres. Day to day that means monitoring, tuning and troubleshooting production databases, digging into execution plans and indexes, and optimising T-SQL (stored procedures, functions, views and triggers). You’ll also lead upgrades, migrations and patching, design and test geo-redundant backup and disaster recovery, and look after security, including role-based access, auditing and encryption.
You’ll need deep hands-on experience with AlwaysOn Availability Groups, clustering, mirroring, log shipping and replication, plus SSIS, SSRS and SSAS, PowerShell automation and a solid grounding in Windows Server. Experience in regulated or secure environments, enterprise storage, or change management and audit support is a bonus. Just as important is the ability to explain complex database topics to non-technical stakeholders with confidence.
Beyond the tech, this is a role with real visibility. You’ll work closely with product managers, software engineers and senior technical leaders, helping shape how the database architecture supports the wider product roadmap, and reporting into the Head of Engineering. They’re looking for someone calm under pressure, who takes genuine ownership and gets satisfaction from stable, predictable systems, but who also wants a say in where those systems go next. There’s occasional out-of-hours support for planned maintenance or critical incidents, so a team-first mindset matters.
