Job summary

Synapri in Glasgow is seeking an experienced Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator for a 12-month contract with hybrid on-site and remote work. This role requires SC security clearance and a proven track record with enterprise-scale SQL Server environments.

You will manage SQL Server 2019 instances, implement HA/DR, automate maintenance using PowerShell, and ensure security, backups, and monitoring across production databases.

Qualifications

• You must have a strong track record as an MS SQL Server DBA and experience supporting enterprise-scale SQL Server environments.
• Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining SQL Server 2019 and related HA/DR solutions.
• SC security clearance will be required to work on this role.
• Proven abilities in backups, maintenance automation, and security practices.

Location: Glasgow (hybrid working - 2-3 days onsite)

Essential Skills

• You must be able to demonstrate a strong track record as a Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator, with experience supporting and maintaining enterprise-scale SQL Server environments

Technical Skills

• Proven experience installing, configuring, and administering Microsoft SQL Server 2019.
• Strong T-SQL development and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience developing and maintaining PowerShell scripts for automation and administration.
• Good understanding of SQL Server High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions.
• Hands-on experience with SQL Server Always-On Availability Groups and clustered environments.
• Experience implementing and managing Log Shipping solutions for disaster recovery.
• Experience applying SQL Server Service Packs (SPs), Cumulative Updates (CUs), and Windows security patches.
• Strong understanding of SQL Server security best practices, including Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Active Directory integration, and security group management.
• Understanding of TLS/SSL certificates and encryption technologies used to secure SQL Server communications and endpoints.
• Experience managing and enhancing SQL Server maintenance processes, including backups, integrity checks, index maintenance, housekeeping routines, and automation through T-SQL and stored procedures.
• Experience implementing and managing SQL Server Auditing and compliance controls.
• Knowledge of database capacity planning, performance optimisation, and management of database files and virtualised storage platforms.
• Experience monitoring and maintaining SQL Server production environments to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability.
