Job summary

Pharmacy2U Ltd is seeking a Database Administrator to manage and optimise our data platforms across on‑prem and cloud environments. The role collaborates with BI, developers and middleware teams to deliver secure, high‑performing databases.

The position is full‑time on a hybrid schedule based at Thorpe Park, Leeds, with core hours 09:30–16:00 and a comprehensive benefits package. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Qualifications

  • Experience administering SQL Server environments.
  • Strong SQL and T-SQL skills for query tuning.
  • Experience with Azure SQL or cloud-based databases.
  • Ability to troubleshoot incidents and perform root cause analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure database platforms remain highly available, resilient and performant.
  • Maintain data source security with access controls, reviews and audits.
  • Collaborate with BI developers, application specialists and middleware teams for data integration and reporting.
  • Coordinate with third-party suppliers on installations, upgrades, maintenance, testing and troubleshooting.
  • Provide specialist database expertise in response to DevOps escalations.
  • Build stakeholder relationships to understand data objectives and value.

Role:Database Administrator
Location: We operate a hybrid schedule, meaning 2-3 days a week in the office based at Thorpe Park, Leeds.
Salary: DOE plus extensive benefits

Working hours: We work on a core hours principle. Our core hours are 09:30 - 16:00; you can work around these to suit you!

This role works closely with cloud engineers, architects and developers to design, optimise and support resilient, secure and scalable data environments. With responsibility for monitoring critical production databases and enhancing performance across on-premises, cloud and PaaS platforms, the role makes a significant contribution to the delivery of technology solutions that drive business success.

Our tech teams keep us running 24/7 to make sure all our patients get world class service. To support that, this role may include participation in an out-of-hours rota as required by the business. We operate fair scheduling process as well as additional compensation for all on call periods.

What you’ll be doing?
  • Ensuring database platforms remain highly available, resilient and performant.
  • Maintaining the security of data sources, ensuring access is appropriately controlled, reviewed and audited.
  • Collaborating with BI developers, application specialists and middleware teams to enable accurate, reliable data integration and reporting.
  • Working with third-party suppliers on installations, upgrades, maintenance, testing and troubleshooting activities, ensuring services meet business and technical requirements.
  • Providing specialist database expertise in response to support escalations from DevOps teams and technical colleagues.
  • Building strong stakeholder relationships across the business to understand objectives, data requirements and the value delivered through data platforms.
  • Executing data management activities in a controlled, compliant and reliable manner.
  • Configure, maintain and optimise proactive monitoring solutions using tools such as Redgate and New Relic.
  • Manage and maintain software development lifecycle (SDLC) environments, ensuring they remain fit for purpose and operationally effective.
Who are we looking for?
  • Demonstrable experience administering and supporting database technologies, including SQL Server 2019 and Azure SQL.
  • Proven experience in a Database Administrator or similar data platform role.
  • Strong operational expertise in troubleshooting, incident resolution and root cause analysis.
  • Experience of database performance tuning, optimisation and capacity management.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft T‑SQL, including query development and optimisation.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Experience using native and third-party monitoring and performance management tools, such as Redgate SQL Monitor and New Relic.
  • Experience administering and supporting Azure Cosmos DB or other cloud-based database technologies.
