Job summary

Experis is seeking a SQL DBA Lead in Manchester for on-site work in a secure environment. You will manage Azure and on-prem Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL databases across production, UAT and development, ensuring performance, availability and security.

The role focuses on clustering, backups, performance tuning and mentoring junior DBAs, with ITIL/ServiceNow familiarity and Azure certifications preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2016+ and MySQL in enterprise environments.
• Strong T-SQL, stored procedures and triggers knowledge.
• Experience with Azure VMs, Windows Server and Azure DevOps.
• SSIS development, deployment and maintenance expertise.
• Power BI report server expertise; troubleshooting access, performance, and SSLs.
• Basic knowledge of SCOM and/or Azure Monitor.
• Experience with ITIL systems like ServiceNow.
• Azure DB Administrator Associate certification preferred; ITIL Foundation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administer and tune MS SQL and MySQL databases including clustering, replication, backups, and performance.
• Provide third-line support and resolve incidents via ticketing systems.
• Perform releases, patching and upgrades across environments.
• Monitor space usage and optimize database performance; review alert logs.
• Mentor junior DBAs and share knowledge across the team.

Job Description

The SQL DBA will act as a subject matter expert for Azure and on-prem Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL environments. The role supports enterprise-level database operations across production, UAT, and development environments, ensuring performance, availability, and security.

This role will be based full time in the Manchester secure room.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain MS SQL and MySQL databases, including clustering, replication, backups, and performance tuning.
• Provide third-line support and resolve incidents via call management systems.
• Perform planned releases, patching, and upgrades across environments.
• Monitor and optimise database performance, including space management and alert log checks.
• Mentor junior DBAs and contribute to knowledge sharing across the team.

Skills and Experience Required

• Well versed in Microsoft SQL Server (2016 onwards)
• Significant experience with T-SQL, stored procedures, triggers
• Experience with Azure VM's, Windows Server and Azure DevOps
• SSIS - experience in creating, maintaining and deploying packages through SQL Server Integration Services
• Power BI - knowledge of Power BI report server, and an ability to troubleshoot issues around access and performance issues, perform upgrades and install SSL certificates
• Basic working knowledge of SCOM and/or Azure Monitor
• Experience working with ServiceNow or a similar ITIL system
• Nice to have: PowerShell Qualifications
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or equivalent certification (preferred).
• ITIL Foundation certification (preferred).
