Our client is a global company going through a period of rapid growth. Due to the growth of their product offering and the expansion of their system, they need an experienced DBA to advise and implement best practices regarding performance enhancement and optimization of their current database architecture.

As the SQL DBA, you will be responsible for enhancing database performance, ensuring stability, and optimizing data operations within our client's platform. Your primary focus will be on query tuning, indexing strategies, data storage strategies, and ensuring the quality and reliability of their MS Fabric-based data lake.

You will be someone who is passionate about data performance, cloud-based solutions, and high-availability systems. You will be instrumental in ensuring our client's databases run smoothly and can scale with the business.

Key responsibilities:

  • Enhance SQL Server performance by optimizing queries, indexes, and partitions.
  • Diagnose and resolve slow queries and database bottlenecks in collaboration with development teams.
  • Identify and optimize inefficient stored procedures.
  • Improve data storage and archiving strategies for better performance and cost efficiency.
  • Assess and refine the MS Fabric data lake architecture, implementing optimization recommendations.
  • Assist in deploying the data lake into the production environment.
  • Strengthen database monitoring, backup strategies, and maintenance procedures.
  • Collaborate with the infrastructure team to ensure optimal performance and reliability of cloud-based databases.
  • Uphold security best practices and ensure compliance with data governance standards.

Key requirements:

  • Experienced contract SQL DBA or Database Engineer, specializing in high-performance databases.
  • Proven expertise in SQL Server performance tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • In-depth knowledge of query execution plans, indexing, partitioning, and caching.
  • Experience working with MS Fabric, data lakes, and cloud-based database architectures.
  • Strong understanding of ETL pipelines and data warehousing principles.
  • Proficiency with database monitoring and observability tools (e.g., SQL Profiler, Query Store, Redgate, New Relic).
  • Advanced skills in T-SQL, stored procedures, and database security best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-based database platforms, including Azure SQL and AWS RDS.
  • Expertise in high-availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a contract role, delivering results efficiently.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for diagnosing complex performance issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical database concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
