Job summary

Meraki Talent is seeking a SQL Server DBA for a 6 month contract in Edinburgh City Centre. This role focuses on performance, availability, and security of SQL Server environments, while supporting ongoing operations and project work.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments, with a focus on performance tuning and familiarity with HA/DR technologies. This is a hybrid position, requiring 3 days onsite each week.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments.
• Proven performance tuning capabilities regarding indexes and execution plans.
• Solid understanding of HA/DR technologies such as Always On AGs.

Skills

Significant hands-on experience as a SQL Server DBA

Familiarity with Azure concepts

PowerShell / Terraform scripting for DBA automation

Familiarity with monitoring tools

Experience in regulated environments

SQL Server DBA – 6 month contract (Inside IR35) - £500 per day (Umbrella)- Hybrid 3 days onsite Edinburgh City Centre

Meraki Talent have partnered with global Financial Services business in Edinburgh who are looking for a SQL Server DBA for an initial 6 month contract. You will focus on ensuring performance, availability and security of critical SQL Server environments whilst supporting ongoing operations, improvements, and project work.

They need a hands-on SQL DBA who can operate independently, deal with complex issues and work across cross functional teams.

This is a hybrid position, with the expectation being 3 days a week onsite in their Edinburgh City Centre office.

• Significant hands-on experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments
• Proven experience with performance tuning (indexes, execution plans, waits, IO, memory)
• Solid knowledge of HA/DR technologies (Always On AGs essential)
• Strong T‑SQL skills for diagnostics, automation, and troubleshooting
• Experience with backup and recovery strategies in large environments
• Understanding of Windows Server and storage concepts
• Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced, delivery‑focused environment.
• Familiarity with Azure concepts.
• PowerShell / Terraform scripting for DBA automation
• Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g. Redgate, SolarWinds, Quest Spotlight)
• Experience working in regulated or security‑conscious environments
• Exposure to DevOps / CI‑CD database deployment practices.
• Experience of Fabric and Azure Data Factory
