Job summary

Hallandkay in Birmingham seeks a skilled sprinkler design engineer to lead the design from concept through to final working drawings, coordinating with clients and other trades.

You will monitor design against programmes, prepare hydraulic calculations, and issue completion documents. The role demands strong communication, leadership, and a proactive, can-do approach with occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Comprehensive experience in a design engineering role within the sprinkler industry (essential).
• Familiarity with LPC BS EN 12845 rule (essential).
• LPCB Intermediate qualification & LPCB Full Hydraulic Calculation qualification (desirable).
• Experience using AutoCAD (essential). Revit 3D experience (desirable).
• Experience with Full Hydraulic Calculation software (Canute desirable).
• Knowledge of Factory Mutual Standards (essential).
• Knowledge of NFPA standards (desirable).
• HND or Degree in construction/engineering design (desirable).
• Experience in managing, developing, mentoring and leading a team.
• Strong communication with clients and colleagues; promotes company image.
• Organisational/time management; ability to prioritise changing priorities.
• Active problem solver with initiative; able to work with minimal supervision.
• Full driving license; willingness to travel and occasional nights away.

Responsibilities

• Develop sprinkler system design through coordination with client reps and other service contracts to a final scheme.
• Contribute to design programme by monitoring against construction programme and specs.
• Issue all completion documents and certification.
• Obtain information from site, architects, consultants, builders and other trades for fully designed drawings.
• Attend site meetings independently when design matters are on the agenda.
• Prepare complete working drawings with hydraulic calculations and correct design codes.
• List materials from designs for procurement, variations, schedules of rates.
• Forward drawings/quantities to suppliers for procurement; order materials and monitor stock.
• Perform other activities as instructed by Project/Design Manager.
• Familiarise and comply with company policies and procedures.
