talkSPORT is the world’s biggest sports radio station. Covering events from World Cups and European Championships to the Premier League, Champions League, Test cricket, and boxing, the talkSPORT network is at the heart of major sporting events worldwide.

The Role: talkSPORT.com is seeking a talented and passionate Sports Writer to join our digital team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an ambitious journalist with strong news instincts, engaging storytelling skills, and extensive sports knowledge to shape content that attracts and retains our audience.

You will be responsible for breaking stories, creating compelling headlines, identifying trending topics early, and writing sharp, entertaining, and accurate copy for a global readership.

You will report to the Head of talkSPORT.com and be based in our London Bridge newsroom.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  1. Write and publish high-quality, engaging, and accurate news, features, and analysis across various sports.
  2. Identify trending stories early and respond swiftly to breaking news with confidence and clarity.
  3. Generate original ideas and contribute to daily editorial planning meetings.
  4. Collaborate with SEO and audience teams to optimize content performance.
  5. Coordinate with social media, video, and broadcast teams to maximize story reach and impact across platforms.
  6. Conduct interviews and source unique quotes and insights to enhance stories.
  7. Ensure all content adheres to our editorial standards in quality, style, tone, and accuracy.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Proven experience in digital sports journalism.
  • Deep knowledge and passion for sports, especially football.
  • Fast, accurate writing ability under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent news judgment and a keen eye for stories.
  • Strong understanding of SEO and audience engagement strategies.
  • Confident communicator and team player.
  • Experience with CMS (e.g., WordPress) and analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Parse.ly).
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends aligned with sports schedules.
