The Role: talkSPORT.com is looking for a talented and passionate Sports Writer to join our growing digital team. This is a brilliant opportunity for an ambitious journalist with a strong news sense, a flair for engaging storytelling and an in-depth knowledge of multiple sports to help shape the content that keeps our audience coming back for more.

You’ll be expected to break stories, create compelling headlines, spot trending topics before they go mainstream and write sharp, entertaining and accurate copy for a global audience.

You will report to the Head of talkSPORT.com and be based in our London Bridge newsroom.

Day to Day You Will:

  • Write and publish high-quality, engaging and accurate news, features and analysis across a range of sports
  • Spot trending stories early and react quickly to breaking news with confidence and clarity
  • Generate fresh, original ideas and contribute to daily editorial planning meetings
  • Work closely with the SEO and audience team to ensure content performs strongly
  • Liaise with social media, video, and broadcast teams to maximise the reach and impact of your stories across platforms
  • Conduct interviews and source unique quotes and insight to enhance your stories
  • Ensure all content meets our editorial standards in terms of quality, style, tone, and accuracy

What are we looking for from you:

  • Deep knowledge and passion for sport – particularly football
  • Fast, accurate writer who can craft compelling copy under tight deadlines
  • Excellent news judgement and a nose for a story
  • A strong understanding of SEO and audience engagement strategies
  • Confident communicator and collaborative team player
  • Experience working with a CMS (e.g. WordPress) and analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics, Parse.ly)
  • Flexible and willing to work evenings and weekends in line with the sports calendar
