Job summary

Frederick Bird Academy in Coventry invites applications for a Sports Teaching Assistant Apprentice to support pupils and help deliver sport and physical education activities. You will work under guidance to assist teachers and contribute to a positive learning environment.

The 16‑month programme combines on‑site duties with online learning through LMP Education, enabling progression to a Level 3 Apprenticeship and developing coaching and classroom skills.

Qualifications

• GCSEs at grade C/4 or above in Maths and English.
• DBS must be completed if successful.
• Committed to completing the Level 3 Apprenticeship.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality sports coaching before, during and after school.
• Support the school and gain skills across the curriculum as needed.
• Contribute to competitive sports provision within the PE department.
• Develop links with local schools to promote sport and activity.
• Assist with improving staff development in Physical Education.

Sports Teaching Assistant Level 3 Apprenticeship – Frederick Bird Academy

Key Details

Salary: £8 increasing to National Minimum Wage after 12 months

Working hours: Monday – Friday (Shifts TBC) 30 hours per week

Location: Swan Lane, Coventry, CV2 4QQ

Apprenticeship Details – 16 months expected duration to complete, working towards your Sports Teaching Assistant Level 3 Apprenticeship. (All learning is delivered online/ remote).

Training Provider: LMP Education (rated 1st best UK training provider)

As a Sports Teaching Assistant Apprentice, you will work under the instruction/guidance of teaching/senior staff to undertake work/care/support programmes, to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils. Your day-to-day duties include:

• To provide high-quality sports coaching before, during and after school to help promote the importance of physical education, school sports and physical activity.
• At times, you may be required to support the school in other areas if necessary and to gain skills across the curriculum
• Contribute towards competitive sports provision and day-to-day sport within the PE department
• Further develop links with local schools to help with competitive sport and physical activity provision
• Increase physical activity levels before, during and after the school day
• Assist with the improvement of staff development within the area of Physical Education and School Sport
• To assist the school in its day-to-day duties
• To contribute to the overall ethos, work & aims of the school
• Develop an understanding of policies & procedures, complying with their contents and raising concerns in a timely manner
