Job summary

Formula One Management Limited is seeking a Sporting Systems Technician to join the Track Systems team. You will install, deploy and manage F1 timing data systems at race locations, working outdoors across global destinations and traveling on a regular basis.

The role requires hands-on electrical/electronic skills, ability to read wiring diagrams, and strong teamwork for high-pressure events. You will report to the Engineering Manager – Sporting Systems and contribute to safety and accuracy at

Qualifications

  • Well-presented, organised and positive can-do attitude.
  • Strong team-working ability and capable of working outdoors in varied weather.
  • Willingness to travel regularly for extended periods (1–3 weeks).
  • Desirable: knowledge of IP addressing and TCP/IP communications.
  • Desirable: experience in electronics or network IT environments.

Responsibilities

  • Install timing loops, beacons and track temperature sensors into the track surface.
  • Perform manual tasks including digging, soldering and operation of tools with health and safety in mind.
  • Test and verify correct function of timing data acquisition equipment and related hardware.
  • Configure and monitor data flows and timing decoders across circuits used at race locations.
  • Read and interpret F1 circuit drawings to ensure correct equipment setup for races.
  • Provide basic data analysis to identify trends and faults and report issues to the team.

Job description

Role Overview

We are looking for a Sporting Systems Technician to join our Track Systems team. Reporting into our Engineering Manager – Sporting Systems, this role will support the installation, deployment and management of the F1 timing data acquisition and communications system at F1 race locations.

Responsibilities
  • Competently install timing loops, beacons and track temperature sensors into the surface of the track.
  • Perform manual work including digging, soldering and operation of machinery and tools, while complying with health and safety training.
  • Work safely at all times in accordance with company and location‑specific health and safety requirements.
  • Install, test and terminate coaxial cable and multi‑core twisted‑pair data cable used for loop and decoder data communications.
  • Test and verify correct function of all timing data acquisition equipment and related hardware.
  • Fault‑find basic IT networks and cable systems.
  • Compile and publish reports for the department.
  • Work outdoors in a variety of global destinations.
  • Ensure department and company tools and equipment are correctly used, maintained and transported between races.
  • Read, comprehend and work to the F1 Circuit Drawings to achieve the correct equipment setup for a race.
  • Configure and monitor incoming and outgoing data using F1 software to ensure correct function of company systems.
  • Report issues to the F100 team and associated clients.
  • Mark loop IDs on track with spray paint and install beacon fittings in track and pit lane.
  • Mark front axle points for pit‑stop boxes in pit lane.
  • Configure and deploy timing decoders, pit‑lane nodes and workshop furniture.
  • Perform basic data analysis to identify trends and faults.
  • Load and unload work equipment safely.
Qualities & Qualifications
  • Well presented, organised and positive can‑do attitude.
  • Strong team working ability and capable of working outdoors in hot and cold weather.
  • Willingness to travel on a regular basis for extended periods (1 to 3 weeks).
  • Keen interest in technical subjects related to the job and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Excellent communicator with ability to express oneself accurately and concisely.
  • Good time‑management skills.
  • Fault‑finding experience on electrical/electronic wiring systems.
  • Experience reading and working to wiring diagrams and technical drawings.
  • Desirable: knowledge of IP addressing and TCP/IP communications.
  • Desirable: previous experience in a similar environment such as electronics or network IT.
  • Qualifications in Motorsport Engineering with an electrical/electronic bias.
  • Career progression to Senior Sporting Systems Technician.
