At Formula 1, we are passionate about delivering the world’s greatest sports and entertainment spectacle leaving a positive legacy wherever we race. Innovation has always been at the heart of what we do ever since our first Grand Prix in 1950. Now, more than 75 years on, the sport remains a pioneer, developing technologies that have made a significant impact on society beyond the track.

Everything you see on screen or at an event comes via our passionate and dedicated people. Whether its engineering, broadcast, legal, logistics, security, event management, commercial, media rights, marketing, or communications there is always a talented team working to maximise the potential of the sport.

Role Overview:

Our team of hundreds of skilled experts keep Formula 1 moving. You could play a vital part as a Senior Electronics Technician to design, build, integrate, maintain, and support the electrical and electromechanical systems required for sea freight operations. This role will be a two year fixed term contract.

The F1 Electronics department produces a wide range of customised and bespoke solutions to support the timing, televising, and organisation of Formula 1 events. We architect and design embedded systems for F1 cars to provide team telemetry and driver/engineer audio, and to deliver on-board video and audio for F1 broadcasters and digital platforms. This is in addition to a variety of other electronics solutions designed by our small inhouse team to support any aspect of an F1 event.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design, build, assemble, and test electrical and electromechanical equipment, including wiring looms, harnesses, and electrical enclosures.
  • Perform maintenance, servicing, and fault‑finding on equipment using appropriate tools and test equipment.
  • Produce and maintain multiple equipment sets for Sea Freight operations, ensuring consistency and build quality.
  • Take product requirements and break them down to hardware level requirements.
  • Support design tasks, such as loom drawings, enclosure layouts, component selection, and minor PCB updates.
  • Integrate off‑the‑shelf electronic components into complete, reliable system assemblies.
  • Carry out functional testing, verification, and documentation to ensure equipment is ready for deployment.
  • Maintain accurate build, service, and configuration documentation, and contribute to improving processes.
  • Participate in project and engineering review meetings, providing updates and contributing to planning, testing, and documentation activities.
  • Support engineering processes by preparing accurate technical documentation and ensuring alignment with project and quality requirements.
  • Maintain a proactive, solutions‑focused approach to resolving issues and ensuring continuity of operations.
What Are We Looking For?

In this role it is essential that you are:

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to quickly identify and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Operate effectively in a high pressured and challenging environment yet have a methodical and structured approach to work.
  • Highly motivated, flexible to change, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality, performance, and reliability.
Qualifications

Not essential to be successful in the role but you may also have the following qualifications:

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent vocational and industry experience) in electronics engineering (or suitable equivalent).
Experience

Prior to the role it would be essential that you:

  • Strong engineering background including electronics, schematic understanding, and the capability to contribute to or review PCB and hardware designs.
  • Proven experience in hardware design, development, or integration with an understanding of high‑reliability system requirements.
  • Hands‑on experience assembling and supporting electrical/electromechanical systems, including wiring looms, enclosures, and off‑the‑shelf components.
  • Experience debugging hardware during system integration and performing structured fault‑finding using electronic test equipment.
  • Practical experience maintaining or servicing existing equipment to ensure consistency and readiness
Some desirable experience that you may bring to the role:
  • Working in broadcast or automotive (motorsport) industries

Prior to the role it is essential that you demonstrate:

  • Strong practical electrical/electronics skills, including soldering, crimping, cable termination, and basic PCB rework.
  • Ability to read and produce wiring diagrams, loom drawings, and assembly documentation.
  • Good understanding of electrical components, power distribution, connectors, and system integration principles.
  • Competent in the use of electronic test equipment for fault‑finding and verification.
  • Familiarity with electromechanical assemblies and enclosure build practices.
