Millfield Prep School are seeking to employ seven Sports Interns for the 2027–2028 academic year to contribute to our sports, physical education and boarding programmes. A Sports Internship in the sports department of Millfield Prep School will provide an unrivalled opportunity to work at one of the UK’s leading prep schools.
Millfield Prep School (MPS) is an independent co-educational school with outstanding sports facilities, situated near the famous Glastonbury Tor. There are around 400 children ranging in age from 2–13 years, with about a third of these children boarding. We have outstanding facilities and a vibrant multisport environment.
Sports Interns will have the opportunity to further develop the knowledge and skills gained through their undergraduate degree. Successful candidates should be confident, reliable and have good interpersonal skills, as well as showing a willingness to be involved in all areas of school life.
We are seeking interns to be involved in coaching sports teams, assisting during Physical Education lessons and contributing to the athletic development of our talented sports players. Interns will also have the option of getting involved with other areas of the school, for example, the Pre‑Prep Department, boarding or an academic department, which may be particularly beneficial to those wishing to pursue a PGCE.
The posts run for a full academic year from September through to June, with breaks for school holidays. Remuneration is £14,705.76 per annum (inclusive of statutory holiday pay), plus board and lodging during term time (non‑monetary, to the value of £3,341.10 per annum) and a contribution towards professional development (e.g. a coaching course). In addition to contributing to the above areas, interns will gain experience in boarding houses and help supervise recreation times.
Candidates must be graduates in Sports Science, Sports Coaching or a similar relevant degree. Applicants have participated regularly in sport to a good standard and ideally hold coaching qualifications in relevant activities.
Millfield Prep School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. Offers of appointment are subject to satisfactory references and DBS clearance.
