Job summary

University of Cambridge invites applications for a part-time SpLD Screening Adviser (0.5 FTE) to provide initial screening for students with SpLD traits. The post is a fixed-term cover until 12 July 2028 or until the post holder returns.

You will join the Accessibility & Disability Resource Centre (ADRC) team and collaborate with academic and support staff across departments, colleges and the Student Services Centre. A commitment to equality and Universal Design for Learning is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field with post-graduate SpLD assessment qualification.
  • Recent experience screening or assessing students for SpLDs and knowledge of disability equality in higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide initial SpLD screening service to students identifying with SpLD traits.
  • Work with ADRC and university staff across departments and colleges.
  • Meet deadlines in a busy support service environment.

You will work as part of the ADRC team and also work closely with academic and support staff within university departments and within colleges, as well as with other professional services staff within the University's Student Services Centre. The post-holder will report to the Head of Centre You will be qualified at degree level (or with equivalent relevant experience). and hold a post-graduate qualification in assessing and diagnosing specific learning difficulties. You should have recent experience screening or assessing students for SpLDs and an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of legislation, regulatory guidance and debate in relation to disability equality in a tertiary education setting. An understanding of and commitment to the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) would be an advantage. You will need excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, experiences and expectations, demonstrating a commitment to equality of opportunity.
