Job summary

Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Registered Staff Nurse for the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital. The role is NHS AfC Band 5 on a fixed-term 11-month contract (maternity cover) with 36 hours per week in a rotational pattern including nights and weekends.

Salary ranges £32,073 - £39,043 per annum pro rata. The Trust supports flexible working and offers NHS benefits, with interviews scheduled for late September 2026.

Qualifications

• 1st Level Registered Nurse (degree/diploma)
• Current NMC registration
• Evidence of continuing professional development

Responsibilities

• Assist in setting and monitoring standards of nursing care within the department.
• Encourage involvement of patient’s carer in assessment of care needs.
• Encourage patient involvement in management and evaluation of care.
• Advocate patient involvement for individualised care.
• Initiate and participate in health education promotion.
• Liaise with MDT to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care.
• Maintain effective communication with the nurse in charge.
• Ensure care is delivered within professional scope and conduct.
