Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a Speech and Language Teaching Assistant for a primary school in Wellingborough, starting September 2026. The role is full-time and temporary-to-permanent, focusing on pupils with speech and language needs.

You will provide one-to-one and small-group support, delivering targeted activities to improve communication, listening and language skills, while building confidence and supporting learning in and out of the classroom.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with speech, language or communication needs is desirable.
• Experience in primary school or SEN settings is advantageous.
• Patient, caring and encouraging approach.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with speech and language needs.
• Deliver targeted activities to develop communication and language skills.
• Build positive relationships to boost confidence and self-esteem.
• Support learning inside and outside the classroom to access activities.
• Collaborate with class teachers, SENCO and support staff to implement plans.
• Adapt activities and resources to individual needs.
• Encourage social interaction and independence.
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to teachers.
• Maintain accurate records in line with safeguarding policies.
