Job summary

Kingston Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service is seeking a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to support preschool children with their communication and feeding needs. You will work with experienced therapists, deliver therapy programmes, create resources and empower families and education staff.

The post is permanent, 18.75 hours weekly. We encourage flexible working discussions and will consider reasonable requests where possible.

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join our team and be an integral part of the Integrated Service for Children with Disabilities. You will work alongside experienced Speech and language Therapists supporting pre‑school children with their communication and or eating, drinking and swallowing needs. You will carry out therapy programmes, support communication in pre-school settings/homes create resources, and empower families and education staff to help children achieve their goals.

Essential Experience

• Has experience working with children and young people in community or educational settings, particularly a child development centre.
• Is enthusiastic about supporting communication needs and inclusion.
• Is an excellent team player with strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Desirable

• NVQ 3 level qualified in a relevant subject or equivalent.
• Exposure to swallowing difficulties.
• Experience of working with SALT.
• Working with children with speech, language and communication needs in a child development centre and / or education setting.
• Experience in an administrative role in the field of child development.
• Knowledge of Makaton Signing and use of visual resources to support children with communication difficulties, Good communication skills including verbal, written and listening skills.
• Good planning and organisational skills.
• Good observation skills.
• Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy.
• Ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team.
• IT skills including Microsoft (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, TEAMS).
• Ability to work under pressure in a busy working environment.
• Intermediate knowledge of IT systems and software programmes, such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, TEAMS.
• Experience with a range of technology (Apple systems, cameras, symbol software).
• Ability to produce professional looking materials.
