Job summary

The Percy Hedley Foundation is seeking an experienced Speech and Language Therapist for a maternity cover within Hedley’s College’s multidisciplinary Therapy team. You will work with students requiring specialist communication support and contribute to a dynamic service across sites in the Northeast.

Role involves input on high-tech and low-tech AAC, signing systems and management of a caseload with complex needs, including dysphagia where required. Term-time, temporary post.

  • Qualified Speech and Language Therapist registered with the HCPC.

Responsibilities

  • Support students with complex speech, language and communication needs.
  • Provide input on AAC, signing systems and expressive/receptive communication methods.

Hedley’s Collegeis a high-quality specialist further education and training provider. We provide education and training for young people aged 16-25 with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities who require specialist individual programmes to develop their communication, independence, and employability skills. We help our learners make successful transitions into adulthood within the Northeast region.

We offer a busy, vibrant and varied environment that supports disabled young adults with cerebral palsy, communication and sensory impairments and complex learning needs including those with Autism. We offer a choice of activities that meet people's aspirations, needs and preferences, thus offering an individualised programme with support from a highly skilled and dedicated staff.

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Band 5 (who has completeted their NQP goals) or Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist within our multi-disciplinary Therapy team.

Speech and Language Therapists within Hedleys College play a vital role in supporting students and their families with specialist interventions such as both hight-tech and low-tech AAC, signing systems and other expresseive and recpetive communciaiton methods. The successful candidate would provide input to a caseload of students with complex speech, language and communication needs as well as possible dysphagia needs.

You would become part of an existing, dedicated team of therapists who strive to deliver best practice at all times. With opportunities to shape a service to meet the ever-changing needs of those we support.

This is temporary, term time only post, covering maternity leave.
