Job Description:

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across various clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million, expanding to 2.2 million with regional and national services.

This is a permanent, part-time position of 22 hours per week. The shift pattern is from 8:30 to 16:30. (Please note the salary is pro-rata for part-time hours.)

The Forensic Mental Health Speech & Language Therapy service aims to deliver high-quality care to patients and their carers. The Forensic Directorate includes medium secure, low secure, and forensic community mental health and learning disabilities teams. Staff may work across any of these areas at any time.

The role of the Forensic Speech & Language Therapists (SLT) includes:

  • Assessing, diagnosing, and treating complex caseloads independently within specialist areas such as Mental Health, Learning Disabilities, Forensics, and Addictions.
  • Collaborating within uni-professional and multi-professional teams to ensure coordinated care and communication for patients and carers.
  • Providing clinical support to junior SLT staff and supervising clinical/support staff, students, and volunteers.
  • Contributing to audit activities, service development, or research to improve clinical practice.
  • Participating in team risk assessments and providing SLT perspectives on patient risk management.

A good knowledge of risk assessment and management, along with an understanding of mental health conditions and forensic environments, is required. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact the informal contact or the Speech & Language Therapist in post. The role involves travel between two sites.

Details on how to contact the Recruitment Service can be found within the Candidate Information Packs.
