Job summary

Dysart School is seeking a skilled Speech and Language Therapist to join our therapy team. You will deliver speech, language and communication support through a collaborative, class-based model across three sites, embedding strategies throughout the school day.

You will work primarily at the Discovery site with some days at Kingston/Main site, providing assessments, reports, and EHCP-related interventions, while promoting neuro-affirming, strengths-based practice and working with education staff.

Qualifications

• Degree in Speech and Language Therapy with HCPC registration.
• Eligibility for Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists membership.
• Knowledge of EHCPs and statutory regulations.
• Experience with AAC systems and communication supports.
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and train staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide child-centred, evidence-based assessment and intervention for pupils with complex speech, language and communication needs.
• Deliver individual and group therapy in collaboration with education staff.
• Fulfil Speech and Language Therapy provision outlined in EHCPs, including assessments, reports and records.
• Promote neuro-affirming, strengths-based communication approaches in the classroom.
• Train teaching and support staff to implement effective communication strategies and support AAC use.

Job description

We are lookingfor a skilled and motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join ourtherapy team. You will deliver speech, language and communication supportthrough a collaborative, class-based model, embedding strategies throughout theschool day while promoting neuro-affirming, strengths-based practice.

The schooloperates across three sites: an all-through main site, a small secondaryprovision and a primary provision. This role will be primarily based at theprimary Discovery site, with one day per week at the main site, workingflexibly across Kingston (approximately two days) and Surbiton (one day).

Key Responsibilities:

• Providechild-centred, evidence-based assessment and intervention for pupils withcomplex speech, language and communication needs, delivering individual andgroup therapy in collaboration with education staff.
• FulfilSpeech and Language Therapy provision outlined in EHCPs, including completingassessments, maintaining clinical records and writing professional reports.
• Promoteneuro-affirming, strengths-based communication approaches, ensuring pupils havemeaningful opportunities to communicate and participate in school life.
• Support andtrain teaching and support staff to implement effective communicationstrategies and create a communication-enabling learning environment.
• Lead andsupport the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems,ensuring pupils have appropriate access to high-tech and low-tech communicationtools.

Key Requirements:

• Qualifications & ProfessionalRegistration: Degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent), HCPCregistration, and eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech andLanguage Therapists.
• Clinical Knowledge & Practice: Knowledgeand application of standardised assessments, confidentiality and dataprotection, and current evidence-based practice and research, includingstatutory regulations for EHCPs.
• Clinical Skills & Experience: Advancedclinical assessment and decision-making skills, experience working with pupilswith complex needs and severe learning disabilities, and ability to manage aclinical caseload with accurate notes and reports.
• Collaboration & Communication: Experienceworking in multidisciplinary teams, training and supporting staff incommunication programmes, and building effective relationships with children,parents/carers, and professionals.
• Specialist & Professional Skills: Abilityto work independently, use initiative, adapt to change, deliver individual andgroup interventions, and assess and implement high-tech AAC communicationequipment.
