Job summary

Civic Recruitment Limited is seeking a Speech and Language Therapist for a 12-month contract with a Local Authority in Guildford. The role focuses on assessment, intervention, and support for school-aged children with speech, language, and communication needs.

You will manage a defined caseload, deliver evidence-based therapy programmes, and monitor outcomes while collaborating with families, schools, and multidisciplinary teams to support educational and developmental potential.

Qualifications

  • Experience managing a caseload of children and young people with speech, language, and communication needs.
  • Experience undertaking specialist assessments, diagnosis, and intervention planning.
  • Experience working collaboratively with schools, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience preparing reports and maintaining clinical records.
  • Experience supporting or supervising less experienced therapists, assistants, or support staff.
  • Experience working within special schools or specialist educational settings.
  • Experience supporting children with complex communication needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose, and provide specialist speech and language therapy interventions for children and young people.
  • Manage a defined caseload, including children with complex needs requiring multidisciplinary input.
  • Develop and implement individual therapy plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Monitor, review, and evaluate progress using appropriate measures.
  • Provide written and verbal reports, recommendations, and feedback to families and schools.

Job Title: Speech & Language Therapist


Job Purpose


To provide specialist speech and language therapyassessment, advice, intervention, and support to school-aged children and youngpeople with speech, language, and communication needs. The postholder willmanage a defined caseload, deliver evidence-based therapy programmes, monitoroutcomes, and work collaboratively with families, schools, andmultidisciplinary professionals to help children achieve their educational anddevelopmental potential.


Key Responsibilities


Clinical Practice



  • Assess,diagnose, and provide specialist speech and language therapy interventionsfor children and young people with speech, language, and communicationneeds.

  • Managea defined caseload, including children with complex needs requiringmultidisciplinary input.

  • Developand implement individual therapy plans and measurable outcomes.

  • Monitor,review, and evaluate progress using speech and language therapy andeducational outcome measures.

  • Providewritten and verbal reports, recommendations, and feedback to families,schools, and relevant professionals.


Multi-Agency Working



  • Workcollaboratively with teachers, educational staff, health professionals,parents, carers, and partner agencies.

  • Contributeto multidisciplinary assessments and planning to achieve the best outcomesfor children and young people.

  • Provideprofessional advice and guidance to schools and families on communicationneeds and intervention strategies.


Leadership and Supervision



  • Providesupport, mentoring, and professional guidance to junior therapists andSpeech and Language Therapy Assistants.

  • Setobjectives and monitor the effectiveness of delegated therapy programmes.

  • Supportthe development of service standards, policies, and best practice.


Service Development



  • Contributeto service improvement initiatives and professional developments.

  • Assistin the implementation and review of therapy programmes, policies, andprocedures.

  • Participatein audits, outcome measurement, and quality assurance activities.


Safeguarding and Compliance



  • Complywith safeguarding, confidentiality, and information governancerequirements.

  • Identifyand elevate risks, concerns, complaints, and safeguarding issuesappropriately.

  • Maintainaccurate clinical records in accordance with professional andorganisational standards.


Experience Required



  • Experiencemanaging a caseload of children and young people with speech, language,and communication needs.

  • Experienceundertaking specialist assessments, diagnosis, and intervention planning.

  • Experienceworking collaboratively with schools, families, and multidisciplinaryteams.

  • Experiencepreparing reports and maintaining clinical records.

  • Experiencesupporting or supervising less experienced therapists, assistants, orsupport staff.

  • Experienceworking within special schools or specialist educational settings.

  • Experiencesupporting children with complex communication needs.


Qualifications



  • BSc(Hons) Degree or equivalent recognised qualification in Speech andLanguage Therapy.

  • Registrationwith the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

  • Membershipof the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).

  • Postgraduatetraining or specialist qualifications in one or more of the followingareas:

  • Dysphagia

  • PECS(Picture Exchange Communication System)

  • Makaton

  • TEACCH

  • SpeechDisorders

  • Advancedknowledge of speech, language, and communication disorders.

  • Strongclinical assessment and intervention skills.

  • Abilityto build effective relationships with children, families, schools, andprofessionals.

  • Excellentorganisational and caseload management skills.

  • Strongproblem-solving and clinical decision-making abilities.

  • Abilityto work autonomously while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinaryteam.

  • GoodIT skills, including Microsoft Office and clinical record managementsystems.

  • Location: Surrey

  • WorkingHours: 35 hours per week

  • ReportingTo: Clinical Team Leader

  • ServiceArea: Speech and Language Therapy, Children, Schools and Families

  • TravelRequirement: Regular travel may be required across the allocatedgeographical area within Surrey

  • ContractType: Temporary contract (subject to service requirements)

  • ProfessionalRegistration: HCPC registration and RCSLT membership must bemaintained throughout employment

  • DBSRequirement: Enhanced DBS clearance required

  • Supervision: Regular clinical supervision, peer support, and continuing professionaldevelopment opportunities provided

  • ManagementResponsibility: May involve supervision and support of Speech andLanguage Therapy Assistants and junior therapists

  • WorkEnvironment: The postholder may work across mainstream schools,specialist centres, and special school settings within Surrey
