Main Responsibilities
- Assessment and differential diagnosis of a child’s communication difficulties through standardised assessments, informal observation, and consultation with parents and school staff
- Utilising highly developed auditory and perceptual skills and working with children with disabilities, including oral examinations
- Applying specialist knowledge for sound clinical judgement and case management
- Identifying and implementing strategies to facilitate communication and develop treatment plans based on assessments and outcomes
- Producing reports on clinical findings and care plans for various stakeholders, including education and health professionals
- Providing advice on managing speech, language, and communication difficulties
- Communicating complex assessment information to clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams to maximize therapy effectiveness
- Adapting practice to meet individual needs, considering cultural and linguistic differences

The Ideal Candidate
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
- Health Professions Council – Licence to Practice
- Membership of relevant Clinical Excellence Networks
- Knowledge of assessment tools for preschool and school-aged children
- Knowledge of therapeutic interventions suitable for the client group
- Understanding of clinical governance and audit principles
- Knowledge of the roles of other relevant professionals
- Standards of record keeping
- Strong observation, listening, and empathy skills
- Negotiation and problem-solving skills
- Excellent analytical and reflective skills
- Teamwork and collaboration skills
- Prioritisation and organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience working with children with complex speech, language, and communication difficulties
