Job summary

A healthcare organization in Tees Valley is seeking a Speech and Language Therapist for a fixed-term position within the community stroke rehabilitation team. Job description
Speech and Language Therapist

TeamCDDFT speech and language therapy is pleased to advertise a fixed‑term Speech and Language Therapy Band 5 post within the community stroke rehabilitation team and voice team. The post offers development opportunities and will be supported by senior staff to ensure the successful applicant develops competencies that meet the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy standards. The successful candidate will also benefit from the CDDFT Pre‑ceptorship programme.

We provide services from two acute sites – Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham – and from multiple community settings across County Durham and North East England.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver evidence‑based assessment and therapy to patients across all settings, including acute, rehab and community environments.
  • Supervise speech and language therapy students and contribute to teaching programmes for community professionals.
  • Provide clinical supervision, attend monthly staff meetings, management supervision and peer support groups.
  • Participate in in‑service training, support the delivery of weekly SLT‑led VFSS/FEES and other assessments.
  • Ensure accurate record‑keeping, coding and compliance with health and safety policies.
  • Carry out work in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and other statutory requirements.

  • Experience in dysphagia and communication rehabilitation within a stroke and/or neurological caseload is desirable.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, training and empathy skills.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and keeping current with clinical advances.
  • Ability to travel independently county‑wide.
