Job Overview

The Speech and Language Therapy Service in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent provides assessment and treatment for adults with communication and/or swallowing difficulties in community settings, including patients' own homes. We offer dysphagia, communication, and voice assessment and intervention, supported by strong leadership and compassionate management.

We have an exciting Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) role available for 37.5 hours per week on a permanent basis covering the Stoke-on-Trent area.

We’d expect you to be happy to travel to see people in a location which suits them best, be great at engaging with the people who use the service and their families, and to be happy to offer face to face appointments and telephone calls.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria

  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent
  • Registration with HCPC
  • Post Graduate RCSLT accredited dysphagia course or equivalent
  • Post qualification courses in communication disorders
  • Attendance at relevant Clinical Excellence Networks
  • Up to date field work/pre-registration student training

Desirable criteria

  • Modules at Masters level
  • Evidence of further clinical study

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Relevant experience to the role including assessment and management of acquired communication disorders
  • Assessment and management of routine dysphagia
  • Ability to manage time and caseload effectively
  • Supporting service users, families and carers in dealing with the impact of acquired communication difficulties
  • Working in a multidisciplinary team

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in assessment and management of acquired communication disorders
  • Experience of negotiation and conflict management in clinical situations
