Job summary

Five Education is seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support pupils with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) in a supportive school environment. The role involves delivering targeted Speech and Language interventions to individuals and small groups, working closely with the SEND team, staff and therapists.

The successful candidate will have HLTA status or substantial school experience, a patient and proactive approach, and the ability to work independently

Qualifications

  • HLTA status or significant experience in a school setting.
  • Experience supporting pupils with speech, language and communication needs, SEND or Autism.
  • Patient, proactive, nurturing approach with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confident working independently within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver speech and language interventions to individuals and small groups, following programmes set by the Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Support pupils with communication, language development, social interaction and emotional regulation.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, adapt support where appropriate and feed back to the SEND team.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and families to ensure consistent support for pupils.

Job Description

Five Education is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support pupils with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) in a supportive, inclusive school setting. The role involves delivering targeted Speech and Language interventions to individuals and small groups, working closely with the SEND team, teaching staff and Speech and Language Therapists to help pupils develop skills and confidence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver speech and language interventions to individuals and small groups, following programmes set by the Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Support pupils with communication, language development, social interaction and emotional regulation.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, adapt support where appropriate and feed back to the SEND team.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and families to ensure consistent support for pupils.
What We're Looking For
  • HLTA status or significant experience in a similar role within a school.
  • Experience supporting children with speech, language and communication needs, SEND or Autism.
  • A patient, proactive, nurturing approach with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence working independently while contributing positively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Essential Requirements
  • Right to work in the UK – no sponsorship or Skilled Worker visas accepted.
  • Able to provide two recent references (from the last two years).
  • Hold a current DBS check registered on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one.*
  • If you do not have a Non‑Voluntary Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, we will assist with processing a new one at a cost of £62.70, which will be refunded after 20 days of work.
