The Anaesthetics Department at Dorset County NHS Foundation Trust has a vacancy for a Specialty Doctor.
The successful applicant will join an established, successful, enthusiastic, and ACSA-accredited team in delivering quality anaesthetic, perioperative, and critical care services to the local West Dorset population and adjoining areas. This includes anaesthetic support for the hospital’s surgical teams, covering theatre sessions for Orthopaedics, Vascular Surgery, Ophthalmology, Maxillo-facial, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Urology, Colorectal, and General Surgery. Anaesthetic support is also provided in the radiology suite and endoscopy unit. The post will include working on the Intensive Care Unit at DCH.

The timetable will be flexible; the post holder will be rostered for up to 20 hours per week, including elective surgical lists (5 hours each), obstetrics cover, and on-call commitments as 1st (Critical Care) or 2nd (Theatre and Obstetrics) on-call tier, as required (12-hour shifts). The rota operates on an 8-week rolling basis with approximately 36 lists of variable surgical specialties over this period, in addition to on-call duties. Specialist interests and regular commitments may be accommodated. The post offers the opportunity of an attached training list each week.
The timetable includes a minimum of one SPA for CPD, supported by the Trust and in accordance with current College requirements.

The Trust is located near the center of Dorchester, a modern hospital providing the full range of general, acute hospital services, including an emergency department. It is a recognized trauma unit affiliated with the Southampton Trauma Centre.
Dorchester is a popular market town with easy access to Dorset’s Jurassic Coastline, an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is served by frequent direct rail services to London Waterloo and Bristol. The town offers excellent recreational amenities and good educational facilities in both the public and private sectors. The seaside resort of Weymouth, with its beaches, picturesque harbor, water sports, and Olympic sailing academy, is only 8 miles away.
