Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is seeking a senior clinician in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to join their team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop surgical and non-surgical skills, participate in audits and research, and contribute to a supportive and inclusive work environment. The successful candidate will engage in high-level obstetric care and have opportunities for professional development, including CESR support.
The Department of Women’s Health Services provides comprehensive Obstetrics and Gynaecology services for local residents. It offers a full range of general services and has established subspecialty activities in Fetal Medicine, Minimal Access Surgery, and Gynaecological Oncology. The department collaborates closely with other local departments, particularly at Guys/St. Thomas’ and King’s College Hospital.
The department is committed to women’s choice and autonomy, emphasizing midwifery management of normal pregnancy. A skilled group of midwifery managers leads ongoing changes in midwifery practice. Due to the local population's characteristics, obstetric practice is generally high risk, requiring significant medical involvement in many pregnancies.
In 2023, the maternity service achieved a 'Good' rating from CQC, with an 'Outstanding' leadership rating. Recent social and demographic changes have influenced the population served, with a birth rate of approximately 7,200 per year across two sites: 4,200 at QEH and 3,500 at UHL.
This post is for a senior clinician (ST6/7 or post-CCT) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, primarily based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. It offers an excellent opportunity to develop and consolidate surgical and non-surgical skills within the specialty.
The successful candidate will have the chance to pursue special interests, be encouraged to complete relevant SITMS, and will be supported to achieve CESR if desired. The role involves conducting audits and research within the department.
The post includes participation in the resident on-call rota for Senior Registrars (ST6/7) in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology, with responsibilities for senior-level obstetric care (third-on call). Clinical fellows will provide active senior medical input into managing pre-operative/post-operative patients and gynaecological emergencies.
